🌳 Lilly Hill Park 🌳

Lily Hill Park in Bracknell is a beautiful green space only half a mile from the hustle and bustle of Bracknell Town Centre.

🚗 Parking is free and there is a large car park on Lily Hill Road (RG12 2RX) and Long Hill Road (RG12 9UE).

🚲 Lily Hill is popular with local families because there is so much to do and plenty to keep the little ones going on the walk! There are many different trails you can do when you get here, most are on clearly maintained paths and would be fine for an off road buggy or balance bike. It’s a little too bumpy for scooters. The main loop around the park is about 4km but there are shorter options for little legs.

There is lots to see at Lily Hill, from carved sculptures such as the Green Man and the Story Telling Throne, the amphitheatre and the balance beam tree! Lily Hill Park is home to the worlds largest picnic bench. You can bring all your friends as this table seats more than 80 people! There are other smaller picnic benches dotted around if you’d rather not share your sandwiches! 🥪

📷 Thank you to local photographer Julia Morrison Photography - UK for capturing Lily Hill so beautifully in these photographs. Please note these photos are from last year. For more parks and walks head to the Bracknell Rocks website or click the link below. ⬇️

Allsmoor Field

📍 Martins Heron, Bracknell

🌞 This is a lovely park in the summer as it has plenty of shade and lots of space to run free away from roads and traffic.

The park itself has a climbing frame with a bridge and slide. There is also some climbing equipment for older children. There are both baby and older swings as well as a seesaw and wobbly chair. There are benches on the side and bike racks to hold children’s bikes upright. A gate around the park stops younger children from running away! 🚲

There are many picnic benches on the field outside the park and space to play football or other ball games. ⚽

From here you can walk easily to Tesco Martins Heron for a babychino at Costa. Thanks to our Rocks Tribe for sharing this super spot. ☕ Please note these photos are from last year.

⭐ NEW Play Park - Bucklers Park Playground (swipe to see the photos!) ⭐

This play area runs alongside the new development Bucklers Park in Crowthorne. It is in a stunning location with Bucklers Forest surrounding it and the play area is very cool. I would say probably suited more to slightly older kids. ⬇️

Lots of benches to sit and have a picnic with a lovely view, there is water in this area so do watch little ones. The play area is full of great climbing equipment and one of the best things I thought was the dual zip line so you can race against friends., parents or siblings. 🥪

There is not a carpark attached to the park so it is best to park at the Bucklers car park and make the short walk to the park, alternatively you could park at Pinewood and walk over. There is also another park currently being built nearer the carpark and we will check this out once it is open. 🚗

🌞 Definitely a great new park to check out this summer hols! For more parks and walks hit the link below. ⬇️

⭐ NEW Play Park - Bucklers Park Playground ⭐

This play area runs alongside the new development Bucklers Park in Crowthorne. It is in a stunning location with Bucklers Forest surrounding it and the play area is very cool. I would say probably suited more to slightly older kids (but I believe there is another park also being installed - let me know if you know more about this!) ⬇️

Lots of benches to sit and have a picnic with a lovely view, there is water in this area so do watch little ones. The play area is full of great climbing equipment and one of the best things I thought was the dual zip line so you can race against friends., parents or siblings. 🥪

As far as I know (but please let me know if this isn't the case) there isn't a carpark attached to the play area. I parked in Bucklers Park and walked over. This is a residential area so do park considerately. 🚗

🌳 Ray Mill Island 🚤

📍Boulters Lock Carpark, 7-15 Lower Cookham Rd, Maidenhead, SL6-8JN

🎉This weekend it was Nanny Rocks birthday so we headed to Ray Mill Island for a boat ride and a picnic. 🧺

🦆The island is very pretty with loads of ducks to feed and you can buy duck feed on the island. You can watch the boats go up and down the Thames, find all the wooden animals dotted around and grab an ice-cream from the cafe on the island. There are lots of picnic benches to have lunch. 🍦

🚤 We hired a boat from the and this was great fun (swipe to see us on the boat) Just a short walk down the road is a nice play area called Riverside Gardens. It's a beautiful area to explore with a couple of options to stop for a drink or lunch. 🍹

We got our picnic from and took it with us. Sorry no pics we couldn't wait to eat it!

⭐️ York Road Playground ⭐

📍 Binfield, Bracknell RG42 4HS

This weeks Wednesday walk is a Wednesday Playground. York Road Playground is one of two main play areas in Binfield it has a good selection of play equipment which would suit a broad age range of children.

Binfield is such a lovely village with a great community feel. 🧒

🥪 We really liked the tunnels! There are some picnic benches for a spot of lunch and some parking close by.

Team it up with the other park at Foxley Fields and pick up some refreshments from The Foxes' Den, Binfield, Binfield (they do great milkshakes!) 🥤

🌳 Edmunds Green & Edmunds Orchard 🍎

📍 Edmund's Green, Newell Green, RG42 3TP

I had a wonder around Edmunds Green and Edmunds Orchard this week. Edmund’s Green is an attractive 2.3 hectare public open space located to the southern edge of Warfield. There are wooden sculptures dotted around which are really lovely (swipe to see some!)

The park contains a mix of habitats and recreational facilities and is connected to the green corridor and cycleway known as Edmund’s Green, which runs alongside the Bullbrook, joining Westmorland Park at its northern end. You can park at Westmorland Park and enjoy the kids play park (I didn't go to the park this time) 🚗

🧊 There is a fun sign that tells you its 120m to Bluebell Hill and 420m to The Chestnuts - I headed to The Chestnuts and on route I discovered the Warfield Ice House. Did you know Icehouses buildings were traditionally used to store ice throughout the year before the invention of the refrigerator. These types of buildings were first introduced to Britain around 1660.

🧊 This particular icehouse was located in the grounds of the old Warfield Park estate and has been a Grade Listed Building since 1972. It was most likely built in the 18th century, and features a spherical domed roof made of brick and insulated by a covering of earth and vegetation. The once small chestnut trees line a historic route. This ran from the icehouse in front of you which was nearby an old walled garden. 🧊

During World War II many old icehouses found a new purpose as food stores. Due to their strong construction, others became air raid shelters. Have you seen the Warfield Ice House before?

📍 Lily Hill Park Rhododendron & Azalea Walk, Lily Hill Dr, Bullbrook, Bracknell - Part 2

🌺 Following on from our gorgeous Wednesday Walk last week where we showed you The Orchard at Lilly Hill Park we are back with some of the most impressive collections of Rhododendrons and Azaleas in our local area that you guessed it you can find at Lilly Hill Park.

💮 These stunning photos from our Wednesday Walk photographer Julia Morrison Photography - UK show just how many different colours are on full display at the moment. 🌼

🌸 The main Rhododendron walk can be found in Starch Copse near the rugby club. The nearest parking is at the Running Horse roundabout public car park (RG12 2UJ) or you can park at the north Car Park for more of a walk and explore first. 🚗
Lily Hill Park has surfaced paths and is very buggy friendly, with lots to keep the children entertained.

As well as being home to the longest picnic bench in England (which has recently been re-carved from one piece of wood), there are also new information boards around the park at points of interest (which include wildlife-themed brass rubbings) and an animal tracks activity trail.

🌸 Search the Bracknell Forest Council Website to download the brass rubbing activity sheet, as well as a fantastic orienteering course for older children. 🌸

⭐ Don't forget to spot "Father Oak" near the North Car Park, as well the Story Telling Throne, stag beetle loggery and lots of other wood carvings on your walk. There is even an amphitheatre for your little monkeys to put on a show for you! ⭐

🌳 The Orchard, Lily Hill Park, Lily Hill Road, Bracknell (RG12 2RX) - Part 1 🍎

Lily Hill Park is one of our favorite Bracknell parks and May is the best month to enjoy lots of colourful floral displays. 🌸

Have you ever visited when the orchard is in bloom? It's so pretty, we thought it was worthy of a post all on its own! Next week we'll be sharing the impressive rhododendrons and azaleas that the park is also renowned for.

🍏 Right now, you can see the pretty apple blossom trees lined up in all their glory, as shown by these beautiful photos from Julia Morrison Photography - UK.

The traditional community orchard was planted in 2005, in recognition of the apple trees that once surrounded Lily Hill Lodge.

Each apple tree is of a different species that was available in Victorian times, including unusual varieties such as Bess Pool, Forge and Tom Putt.

🥁 In January this year, Bracknell Forest Council held a traditional orchard wassailing event at the orchard, an old English custom to protect fruit trees and ensure a good harvest. So we should expect a bumper harvest to follow all the beautiful blossom! 🌸

⭐️ Next week we'll be sharing the stunning rhododendrons. 💕

📍Azalea Valley, Valley Gardens, Windsor Great Park, Virginia Water GU25 4QF in collab with Julia Morrison Photography - UK 🌳

🌸The stunning azalea valley at Virginia Water is now in bloom! Everywhere you turn is absolutely covered in every colour you can imagine, so it's the perfect time to visit! Don't worry if you can't make it for a few weeks though - the rhododendrons will be in flower soon too.

🌳The Valley Gardens cover 250 acres of undulating valleys, which include National Collections of azaleas and rhododendrons. They provide the most beautiful colours throughout the Spring months, with different varieties flowering all at different times.

🌺The area is also renowned for the magnificent Punch Bowl. If you've not seen it already, check out the recent stunning photos in collab with Wokingham Rocks 📸

🔍Visit the Windsor Great Park website to download a map. I find it easier to walk from the Savill Garden Car Park. Go straight past the Obelisk Pond. At the crossroads, head straight on (ignore the sign pointing to your right for the Valley Gardens as it's wrong!). Follow this path all the way until you find the coffee hut and toilets. Directly opposite the hut, you then have a choice of 4 paths down the undulating Valley Gardens. Try them all if you have time! The last path on your left (with your back to the hut) leads you to the Punch Bowl.

🐾The paths are suitable for pushchairs, although it can be steep in the valley. Dogs are allowed, but must be on a lead in the Valley Gardens.

📸Inspired to visit? Please tag us in your stories. Make sure you follow Julia Morrison Photography - UK and Bracknell Rocks for the latest news on places to visit.

⭐ Tarman's Copse Bluebells, Jennett's Park, Bracknell ⭐

Bluebell time is here!! The next few weeks are ideal for enjoying some beautiful bluebells here is the stunning Tarman's Copse brought to us by local photographer Julia Morrison Photo. Please note these photos were taken on a visit last year.

🌳 Tarman's Copse in the middle of Jennett's Park is certainly a hidden gem and offers really stunning, dense displays of bluebells throughout the woods, with lots of different paths to explore.

🚗 There are parking restrictions on many of the residential roads in Jennett’s Park, but you can use the free parking at the Jennett’s Park Community Centre (Tawny Owl Square RG12 8EB) or a bit further away at the Peacock Meadow’s car park (Swift Fields RG12 8BX). Take a pushchair for little legs!

🔎 Tarman's Copse is a great place to encourage your little explorers to spot the rare white and pink bluebells. These rare colours are as a result of a genetic mutations, it is estimated that the proportion of blue to white flowered bluebells is 10,000 : 1!

For even more of a challenge, why not enjoy the Green Giant Trail created by Julia Morrison Photography whilst spotting the bluebells too? This trail to spot the carved Green Giants lurking in the woods and can be found in the walks section of our website - link below ⬇️
