So that's a wrap for the Summer holidays! And what a beautiful day and evening to finish ❤️. It's also the end of our late night opening and we're rolling back our hours to a 6pm finish (5.30pm on Sunday's). Hopefully we can all look forward to an Indian Summer and more adventures and fun days ahead.

A pretty grim day today over the Kirkstone pass in Deepdale which led to a change of plan to take in Arnison Crag, an outlier of the Fairfield group in the Eastern fells. Dropping down into the Patterdale Valley and then an atmospheric walk back along the valley bottom to the car. Wet, misty and boggy but still good to be out!! The next 10 days or so look to be dry and much more settled.....I think we will all look forward to that!

A beautiful day for Cat Bells today! The classic route up from Hawes End. Down for a dip in Derwent Water and back along the shore. A fell which provides incredible panoramic views and is summed up perfectly by Alfred Wainwright....

Not to be defeated by a cool, cloudy day (we've had better days in winter!) a challenge of a circular walk today taking in Dove Crag, Hart Crag and Hartsop above How. Pictures of Dove Crag and the Priest Hole. Windermere from Hart Crag , and an interesting descent from Hart Crag with a view down the Hartsop above How ridge and a picture across Ling Cove taking in Scrubby Crag, Greenhow End with St Sunday in the back ground. It was a fabulous weekend in the lakes for sporting events with The Lap ultra Marathon on Saturday and the Fred Whitton on Sunday. Unbeknown to many though another challenge has been quietly underway. The Brathay 10 in 10! Starting in 2007 the Brathay 10 in10 was the World's first 10 marathons in 10 days stage race. The challenge is simple; run 10 laps of the stunning Windermere Marathon course over 10 days. Today is day 5 of their challenge, with their last round being on Saturday when they'll join the masses for their last round. So if you happen to see them this week give them some friendly encouragement! Each participant will have raised a minimum of £3000 for charity as well as undertaking this incredible physical challenge. Hats off to them-they're amazing!

Today is the 25th anniversary of the Fred Whitton challenge! For those who don't know, this was the first cycle sportive in the UK and is a gruelling 112mile bike ride around the Lake District. Starting at Grasmere and taking in climbs of Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott, Wrynose and Blea Tarn passes. It's a very tough route and going on rider feedback the hardest one day ride in the British Isles as the event includes all the Lakeland passes, one with a 30% gradient and this comes at 98 miles!! The very top riders complete the course in just under 6 hours!! Good luck to all those taking part!

We're big fans of Salewa footwear and we've just got another great boot in for both Men and Women. Not only cool designs but waterproof and breathable too. Lightweight but with a reinforced rand and heel stabiliser so even though flexible they provide excellent comfort, support and stability. Great construction for long lasting hiking comfort!
