Team members of Pagans of the North, attended a talk at Newcastle Castle by Dr Katie Liddane.

Dr Katie Liddane, a Witchcraft History PhD Graduate at Northumbria University, recently gave a talk about the Newcastle Witch Trials, one of the largest mass executions in Britain. The trials, which took place in 1650, involved 15 people, 14 women, and 1 man, being sentenced to death by hanging. This interesting talk discussed torture methods, the history of some of the victims and the facts and fiction about what witchcraft was and believed to be in the past.

We talk about this every year, but we thought we'd create a lovely slideshow explaining Autumn Equinox and the modern name given to this Holiday 'Mabon' and what it is and where it came from.

Many people believe Mabon is the name for an ancient Pagan Festival but this is simply untrue. Infact Mabon was taken from a Welsh figure and a much older celtic God Maponos.
