Hey wonderful people !

Sorry for the radio silence... We’ve been making some changes behind the scenes before we decide to hit the Go button for 2024 entries. I (Jo) have decided to resign from the business as the last few years have reminded me that I’m an artist and need to be focusing my time primarily on my own art, which I’ve neglected for too long. I’ve struggled with this decision as I know the difference the Awards have made to so many, and I often feel selfish when I focus on me, but it’s got to the point where I have no choice and so, will move forward as sole Director and Shareholder, and he will no doubt continue to ensure the business supports our music community as best it can. As and when my support is needed I will still aim to give it.

I’ve had a total blast, with so many opportunities created for the awesome talent in the region since our launch in 2017; and with relationships, friends for life and memories made. But now it’s time for the next chapter, for me, and for the Birmingham Music Awards.

I salute you all. You’ve blown my mind with your talent, your graciousness, your support for each other and your great city. Keep creating as I know you will, and as will I. It’s always all about the music.

🎶 Well that was a triumphant first round of SONGCRITIC ! 🎶

We’re pushing way out of our comfort zone to bring virtual events to our offering ! And last night our music industry panel heard five incredible songs from hundreds of entries.

Everyone created their own avatar and met at the main stage where their songs were played to judges, audience and peers.

Not without a few minor but hilarious glitches (all a learning curve), the event was a huge success ! 💪🔥

So congratulations to , .pritchard.5201, , Briony Ellis and Aiysha Russell 💫🔥 You we’re all tremendous !

And huge thanks to our judges .wav and host 🫶

And of course to the legends behind the scenes and 🙏

We’ve just spent our first day listening to entries for new songwriting competition SONGCRITIC.

As ever the talent out there is outstanding and whittling these down to five per heat is gonna be tough !

But keep them coming ! There is very little as joyful as listening to new incredible songs ! And you may just open a new door of opportunity. 💫

Our panel of industry professionals are poised to give feedback, advice and assistance. Then who knows what might happen ?!

Soooo we owe you an explanation ! 🩶

Why did we have a year off❓

💫 The Birmingham Music Awards has taught us sooo much about the power of community. 💫

We’ve watched you all create so much opportunity and magic through connection over the last six years. So we got our heads together and pitched an idea to around how we could build an even bigger community and serve it faster, better, online. And we were lucky enough to win a grant ! 💰 To build BRYKWORKS: Our very own virtual platform for musicians. 🎶🖤💪 We teamed up with our tech developer pals , created a magical online space, goofed around with avatars and a few virtual reality headsets, and now we’re nearly ready to go live ‼️

So soon we’ll invite you to join us in BRYKWORKS for events, gigs, music industry panels, discussions, courses and more. You can even sell your merch and promote your music to fans and industry there ‼️

We are super excited. 🥳

In the coming days: We’re launching with our first ever event: Songwriting competition: SONG CRITIC. We will bring you a panel of industry professionals who can’t wait to hear your songs ! 🎶🎶
