You don't actually want to go viral. Here's why...

Going viral may sound like the dream, but let’s break it down....

The people who see your viral content? They’re probably not your ideal audience. New followers are often just passers by, not your engaged community. And guess what.... viral moments often don’t equate to actual sales.

If you're running ads and using Lookalike Audiences from your followers, going viral can actually hurt your targeting. It dilutes the reach of your ideal customers, making it harder to convert.

Try and remember this when your reel/TikTok get's 200 views, imagine those 200 people standing in a horde (not zombie horde 🧟‍♀️) and actually... that's quite a lot of people right?

Two more things I didn't include on my list 👇

Chasing every algorithm: repeat after me, thou shall top stressing over every tweak the algorithm makes. Focus on creating content for your community, not the algorithm. 🫠

Over-automation: Let's make 2025 about the humans! Some automations are great but sometimes there is so much of it integrated into a brand that the brand loses its identity. 🤖

What things are you leaving behind in 2024? 👀

After 4 years of working with dog clients... a client of mine needed Eric for some content. IT IS HIS TIME TO SHINE! 😂

I'll be trying my best to keep Eric humble and grounded during this momentous milestone in his life. 🤷‍♀️

Improving your captions is actually super duper easy - you just need to let them breathe a bit!

Using line breaks, white space, and limiting emojis can boost your captions and visibility.

Clear captions improve content visibility, while line breaks make your posts skimmable/scannable/super absorbent!

Large blocks of text can overwhelm (they certainly overwhelm me!) followers, so spacing helps keep engagement on the up!

Emojis add personality, but overdoing it can clutter your message and distract from key points.

Your caption should support your visuals and convey your message effectively! Think of them as your caption's ultimate hype man/woman!

Be sure to read this before you hit publish...

did you add a call to action?

are you clear on your post's objective?

is it free of jargon?

is it easy to skim and absorb with white space?

is it your tone of voice?

are your links working?

Hear me out! 👀

I'm not against AI, in fact, I think it's bloody wonderful - but if it instantly doesn't look like you've written it, how can your audience connect with it... connect with you?

So, here are a few chat GPT prompts to help make your copy sound a little less Chat GPT 👇

'Please don't use furry friend, use dog instead'
'Please use normal hyphen'
'Please use the British language (if you're British of course!)

See how I say please to Chat GPT, very demure, very mindful. 😂

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if your social media caption contains the words 'elevate', 'in the realm', 'prioritize' or 'furry friend'.. then no one will read it.

Sorry. 🙃

I’ve written this post so many times and never posted it.

Why? It felt too personal. It wasn’t bringing any value to anyone. Why would anyone actually care?

But I actually, think I’m going to post it this time because I feel like saying it out loud might help me get over the hurdle I’ve been faced with over the last few months. I also want to let people know it's ok to be 'human' with your business.

If you have noticed, maybe you haven’t - but I’ve been awol. I’ve been completely recluse on social media and as a social media manager, that’s not really great advertising for myself! 🙃

The thing is, my Dad passed away at the beginning of February - this actually feels like TMI but I can’t be vague with that part. I won’t go into detail as he was a super private man but for the reason for this post, I feel like it’s a vital part.

I guess I’m telling you because I’d rather be honest and say that actually, it’s ok to have blips of silence or take it easy in another aspect of your business because you’re a human being and we’re not robots.

I’m also a Mum of two neurospicy children, I suspect they got their neurosparkle from me and if anything this year so far has taught me that when your plate is full. It’s ok to get another plate and slide some stuff over to that plate and let that plate do eff all for a while. 😆

There are two reasons why I am posting this:

1: To get back on the horse and maybe start doing my own marketing again.

2: To show that it’s ok to prioritise yourself and take a break from aspects of your business when you need to. The world did not stop! Hurrah!

Lastly, a piece of Scottish advice from my Dad:

'Keep the heid!' which means, ‘Keep calm under pressure.'

I kept my ‘heid’ by giving myself some grace during a difficult time and I hope that if you take something from this post that it’s ok to set boundaries with yourself, with your own business.

Though they are tired….

They had the BEST TIME at Crufts! 🙌

Not only was it downright exciting, I got to meet ALL THE DOGS and meet up with colleagues (friends really) who I’ve known for years and only ever met up via zoom.

Yesterday was a core memory for me - I can’t wait to do it again! 🥰

Massive thanks to for inviting me on to their stand! 🫶

- we didn’t get a photo but I absolutely LOVED seeing your beautiful face! 🤍
