Dog business owner maths:

One quiet week = nobody will ever book again.
One low-performing post = the algorithm hates me.
One “that’s too expensive” = my prices must be wrong.
One day off = I’m clearly not working hard enough.
Sound familiar? 🙃

When the business is yours, every tiny wobble can feel enormous.

But most of the things keeping you awake at night aren’t proof that everything is going wrong. They’re just normal parts of running a business.
Not every post will perform.

Not every enquiry will become a client.
Not every dog or guardian will be the right fit.

And you’re allowed to rest, change your mind and do things differently as you learn.
None of that makes you bad at business.

So before you rewrite your entire strategy because Tuesday felt a bit rubbish… take a breath.
It might not be the disaster your brain is making it out to be. 🐾

You’re not being “professional”… you’re maybe hiding?

Hiding the opinion that might make someone disagree.

Hiding the service you’re not sure anyone will buy.

Hiding the muddy, hairy, slightly chaotic reality of running a dog business.

The thing is…. dog guardians aren’t searching for a perfectly polished business that says all the right things.

They’re searching for someone they trust with their dog and trust doesn’t come from blending in. It comes from letting people see what you believe, how you work and why you do things differently.

Will that put some people off? Probably. Good. They weren’t your people, friend! 


The goal isn’t to be liked by every dog guardian scrolling past…. It’s to be instantly recognisable to the right ones.

I do love a lurker.

To be honest… I am a lurker. 🤷‍♀️

I’ll follow a business for weeks. Sometimes months.

I’ll watch their videos. Read the comments. Visit the website. Leave. Come back again.

It’s not because I don’t want what they’re selling.

I’m just waiting until it feels like the right time.

I think pet owners do exactly the same thing.

That’s why I don’t believe every post needs to convince someone to buy.

I think good marketing helps people feel ready.

Sometimes that’s a review.

Sometimes it’s a helpful answer to a question.

Sometimes it’s a simple call to action.

Sometimes it’s just seeing another dog or cat like theirs.

Your lurkers aren’t a waste of time. 🤌

Keep showing up. Keep building trust. When the timing is right, they’ll remember you.
