Getting Oli's bass recorded for the Reverent Son album. On this particular recording session we split the signal and recorded a DI track via the Radial J48 while also capturing the sound of the bass being played through an Ampeg B50R amp which was mic'd up with an Audio Technica ATM25 microphone.
In session again with Reverent Son. This time recording Ross's lovely Taylor acoustic guitar with a vintage Sony C38b microphone via D.A.V Broadhurst Gardens No.9 preamp.
I've have had Ross from Reverent Son back in the studio recently, laying down guitar tracks for their upcoming album. Always a pleasure working with these guys, and if the sound of late 70's hard rock fused with elements of modern metal piques your interest then I strongly suggest following this band on social media and getting along to one of their shows. These guys have been gigging relentlessly across the UK and will be playing at Bloodstock Festival this weekend.
The trusty Yamaha Oak Custom kit, comprising of a 22" Kick, 12" and 13" Rack Toms and a 16" Floor Tom.
This is 1 of the 3 in-house drum kits that are available here at the studio along with a vintage 1968 Ludwig (24" Kick, 13" Rack Tom and 16" Floor Tom) and a Gretsch Catalina Club 'Bop Kit' (18" Kick, 12" Rack Tom, 14" Floor tom).
Recently acquired here at the studio, a non-master volume 1969 Fender Dual Showman Reverb amp. These were essentially the same as the Fender Twin Reverbs of that era but in the form of an amp 'head' rather than a 'combo'. Wonderful clean fender tones, amazing tube driven spring reverb and tremolo, and a great platform for effects pedals. In addition to electric guitars, it is also an ideal match for when amplifying vintage keys such as our Rhodes piano.
Here are a few photos from a recording session that took place back in November with the immensely talented pianist and keys player Jacqui Wheeler who performed piano, Rhodes, and organ on a selection of songs here at the studio.
Had Kev and Gerry in for some session work recently, putting down some sax and trumpet for a client of mine. A real joy to work with these fellas.
I've had the guys from Reverent Son in the studio recently working on material for their new album. With drums having been recorded for all songs on our previous session, it was now time to get those amps fired up and for Danny's to get his guitar parts added. If late 70's hard rock blended with elements of modern metal sounds like your kinda bag then be sure to check these guys out, they are currently gigging up and down the country, and will be playing Bloodstock Festival this year which takes place between the 8th and 11th of August.

Always a pleasure to have these guys at the studio for the recording of their regular Not Faulty, Just Blank podcast where these 3 life-long friend take a light-hearted (and often surreal) trip down memory lane where they discuss the music, news, film, and TV of a particular year and share some of their own personal memories too. They have covered the 90’s in season 1, the 2000’s in season 2, and they are now making their way through season 3 where they are focusing on the 80’s. Along the way they have been joined by some fantastic guests which have included local musicians, film directors, comedians etc and we've even had a councillor stumble into the madness!

Following on from my recent post regarding activity here at the studio the past year during its social media hiatus, another project that I have had the pleasure of working on in terms or recording and production is the Not Faulty, Just Blank podcast where each episode, 3 lifelong friends take a retrospective dip into a particular year and indulge in a light hearted and comedic discussion of film, music, TV, the news, and share their own personal memories and exploits of that time. We have also had some fantastic guests in recent months, and during Friday nights recording for an upcoming episode the guys were joined by writer-director, filmmaker and photographer Christopher Ian Smith.
