In my work on TONN Recordings I soon began to encounter artists whose sound that could not be constrained by a single genre. Influenced by the attitude of post punk, but also embodying elements of electronic, these artists were producing music that was fresh, exciting, accomplished and idiosyncratic. I fell in love with this sound and unable to easily define it, I called it ‘French wave’. My desire to work with these artists led me to start a 2nd label and New Sinister is 2 years old today. It started with a very special cassette release by Bleu Russe in association with Petrol Chips and went on to release albums by some of my favourite artists Churros Batiment, Projet Marina, Ailhenn and Grand_Garçon. In the coming months New Sinister will also have the pleasure of producing albums by Petit bourgeois sauvage and Johnny Tchekhova. I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed to and supported the label, especially Duncan Ross, whose striking drawings helped visually encapsulate New Sinister’s unique character. Thanks also to artists Matteo Bosi, John Lalor, Arthur Maserati and Vasiliki Stasinaki whose beautiful artwork has graced our album covers. And special thanks to Wellencocktail - Online Audio Mixing & Mastering Service and Guilhem Hatt of WeAreKnights, Ray Borneo, Emmuanuel Dubois and everyone who has contributed to our audio production.

Getting to work with your favourite artists is one of the best feelings and it was an absolute pleasure to release Churros Batiment's EP, ‘Sale Quart D’Heure’ on New Sinister in 2021. So to find music from their New Sinister CD featuring in DJ Sharlese Jul-Anetia Metcalf's Best Tracks of 2021 Part 3 on Mechanical Breakdown on KEXP has been a great way to start the New Year on New Sinister.
