Rotary Club of Nuneaton Brings Festive Cheer with Santa's Local Visits

The Rotary Club of Nuneaton was delighted to spread holiday cheer at the Atherstone Tesco Store on Saturday, 7th December 2024. This marked the first of three festive events planned to bring Santa to the community, in support of Rotary Charities.

Santa's visit to Tesco was a tremendous success, with members of the club receiving a warm welcome and generous donations from shoppers. The funds collected will go towards supporting various charitable initiatives spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Nuneaton.

Building on the success of this event, the Rotary Club is excited to announce two additional visits from Santa to local neighborhoods:

- **Tuesday, 17th December:** Santa and his sleigh will make their way through the Longshoot estate off Eastboro Way, starting at Woolpack Drive.

- **Wednesday, 18th December:** The festivities will continue with visits to Eaton Place and Heritage Fields Estates, located off Higham Lane.

These events are designed to bring the magic of Christmas directly to the community, while also providing an opportunity for residents to support the Rotary Club's charitable work.

The Rotary Club extends its gratitude to everyone who has contributed so far and looks forward to seeing many more smiling faces during the upcoming visits. Let's make this holiday season one to remember while supporting meaningful causes together.

Sitting pretty……
On a chilly day in mid-October Club Rtns Geoff and Anita visited St Anne’s Academy in Camp Hill to dedicate the bench our Club had donated to the primary school. It’s set in the peace garden created from the winning design in a competition held between the pupils and provides a quiet space for them to rest and unwind during a busy school day.

Nuneaton, UK – Members of the Rotary Club of Nuneaton are proud to volunteer alongside the Royal British Legion for this year’s Poppy Appeal, supporting veterans and commemorating those who have served. Rotary Club volunteers will be assisting with sales and awareness efforts at the Sainsbury's store in Nuneaton every day this week, working side-by-side with Legion volunteers to encourage donations and promote the importance of the Poppy Appeal.

The annual Poppy Appeal is a longstanding tradition that helps fund vital support services for veterans and their families. Through the sale of poppies, the Royal British Legion raises essential funds that go toward mental health support, rehabilitation, financial assistance, and more for former servicemen and women.

"We are honoured to support the Royal British Legion in their mission to provide assistance to those who have served our country," said Steve, President of the Rotary Club of Nuneaton. "As a community service organization, we believe it is our duty to give back and raise awareness for the needs of our veterans. This collaboration allows us to connect with the community while supporting an important cause."

The Nuneaton community is encouraged to visit the Sainsbury’s location this week to purchase a poppy and show their support. Every donation, large or small, helps the Royal British Legion continue its work with those who have sacrificed for the nation.

Mayor of Nuneaton & Bedworth Launches 2024–2025 Mayor's Appeal to Support George Eliot Hospital Breast Care Unit

Nuneaton, 23rd November 2024 — The Mayor of Nuneaton & Bedworth, Councillor Bill Hancox, along with the Mayoress, Sheila Hancox, are proud to announce the Mayor’s Appeal for 2024–2025, which will focus on raising awareness and funds for the Breast Care Unit at George Eliot Hospital.

An announcement was made during a meeting hosted by the Rotary Club of Nuneaton, where the Mayor and Mayoress shared their personal connection to the cause. In his speech, Councillor Bill Hancox highlighted the importance of the Breast Care Unit, particularly referencing the exceptional care that his wife, Sheila, has received from the unit over the years. Sheila was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and required further surgery in January 2022, both times benefiting from the expert care of the unit's dedicated staff.

The Mayor said:
"There is a long history of breast cancer in Sheila's family. Sheila was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and received excellent care and support. In January 2022, she required further surgery and once again was cared for by the dedicated staff of the Breast Care Unit. At such a challenging time for the NHS and health care, it would be a real privilege to help raise funds for the unit and, at the same time, raise awareness of breast cancer. I hope it would also show all staff of the George Eliot NHS Trust how much we value them."

The Mayor’s Appeal will run throughout 2024–2025, with the goal of generating vital funds to enhance the services of the Breast Care Unit, while also encouraging greater awareness of breast cancer and its impact on individuals and families.

The Rotary Club of Nuneaton is honoured to support the Mayor’s efforts and encourages the local community to join in contributing to this important cause.
