Meet Amberin, a South Asian illustrator born in London and a graduate of University College Falmouth! Since her graduation, she's been creating captivating illustrations and joined The Plum Agency in 2019. 🌟✍️

Amberin enjoys exploring a wide range of subjects, but her absolute favourites are all things spooky, sci-fi, and adventurous. 👻🚀🗺️

Most days, you'll find her scribbling away at her desk in her cozy flat just outside London, sipping hot chocolate, and listening to paranormal podcasts, no matter the weather. ☕🎧

🎨✨ Meet Luis, a Mexican graphic designer and illustrator now based in Guatemala! His work is deeply inspired by the rich legends, traditions, and folk stories of ancient Mexican and Latin American cultures, as well as by graphic novels, surrealism, and pop culture. 📚🎭

Luis strives to infuse his art with his Latin American roots, everyday life experiences, and a sense of magic and wonder, inviting viewers to savour every detail. ✨🌎

Celebrating John's Journey of 26 years! 🎉

John joined emc in 1998 and hasn’t looked back since. He started almost fresh from university, with a six-month stint at a web design company under his belt. Over the years, he has worked on all aspects of editorial design, from primary-level to adult titles. Now, he's thriving in his role managing the studio and ensuring all work meets our exacting standards and goes out on time. In his spare time, you'll find John cycling, playing pool, and watching sports (when he's allowed!). 🚴🎱🏆

René joined emc in February 2024, bringing her background in print and digital media from the world of marketing and advertising. Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, she loves cooking and entertaining—though she draws the line at barbecuing in the rain! ☔🚫🔥 In her spare time, you’ll find René traveling, enjoying just the right amount of fitness, rocking out at concerts, or catching a show at the theatre. She’s also totally obsessed with cats and dogs. 🐶🐱 On sunny days, she’s either cruising on her mountain bike or zipping around on her Vespa. 🛵☀️

Today, we’re raising a toast to Gavin for hitting an amazing milestone—20 years at EMC! 🏆👏 Your hard work, dedication, and impact over the years have been truly inspiring. Here’s to many more! 🚀💙

Since starting at emc design in 2005, Gavin has progressed from a junior designer (in a small team of three) to a design manager. He now manages a team and oversees the production of entire book series, from full-colour student’s books to single-colour teacher’s books. Gavin also considers himself head of emc’s ‘glassy button’ department! Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing and watching sports, and barbecuing in any weather! ☀️🌧️

Meet Lu Andrade, an Ecuadorian illustrator based in the beautiful mountains of Quito! With a background in cinematography, graphic design, and digital animation, Lu found her true passion in children's illustration. 🌈📚

Her digital creations are inspired by everyday adventures around the city, whether she's on a bus or strolling through the streets. 🚍🌆

Lu's artistic journey is filled with curiosity and experimentation, and her two adorable cats, Pepinillo and Berlin, are her constant companions. 🐱🐾 When she's not drawing, you'll find her strumming her ukulele, diving into a good book, or cherishing moments with loved ones. 🎶📖❤️

Happy New Year!!! 🎉🎉

Today we're celebrating two anniversaries here at EMC - 14 years for Dale and a total of 8 years for Kat.
Come meet two of our managers!

Kat rejoined emc in 2022 after a short break, bringing with her an MA in Publishing from Oxford Brookes and over a decade of industry experience. She now heads up our Publishing Services team, supporting the studio with her expertise. When she's off the clock, you can find Kat playing football, dancing tango, or embarking on adventures with her twins. ⚽💃👯‍♀️

Dale’s graphic design journey kicked off at school with a grumpy tutor, a drawing board, and parallel motion. After a brief, misguided adventure in music, he found his true calling at Bedford College, falling in love with beautiful typography and infographics. Dale joined emc in the summer of 2010 and is now one of our rockstar design managers. When he's not creating stunning visuals, you can find him cycling for charity or jamming on his guitar. 🎸💪
