We've done a bunch of videos on our Youtube channel recently where we have criticised bands and artists for miming/faking their vocals in a live environment. What takes things to another level of sh*te is when a celebrity 'vocal coach' does it.

It appears to me that this guy is miming almost 90% of the vocals on this video. Was this overdubbed after the fact? Or was he actually miming live? Most of the vocals are clearly studio quality.

This feels dishonest to me, especially as this guy markets himself as a vocal coach. He's clearly a great singer too, which is what makes it all the more disappointing.

One of the things i'm passionate about is encouraging youngsters to get involved in music. But just as we rightly don't want our children to aspire to unreasonable beauty and image standards, we should also be wary that we're not giving them impossible performance standards.

I see music in a similar way to how i see food. We've all heard that music is food for the soul. What do you think this over reliance on technology and fakery does to you when you hear it? We're constantly told that feeding a child ultra high processed foods is dangerous for them. I would argue that feeding them ultra high processed music and entertainment is the same. Everything is auto-tuned to within an inch of its life these days.

What else is fake in this video? The backing vocals sure don't sound real to me. Are all the guitar solos fake too?

I find it utterly depressing!

Anyway, that's my take.
