Wiggy's Solid Gold 70s Show lifted from her wonderful debut album " A Kick Inside" Kate Bush.
This was part of her " Live On Stage" EP which was another big top 20 success here in the UK. Memeories of Pamela Anderson and her parody of this tune on tv show "Not the 9 o'clock news"
Released in Japan as "Rolling The Ball" the hook on the chorus, where it went to number 3 on their charts.

Wiggy's Sounds Of The 70s Disco Today is a REAL "Hen's Tooth" which I stumbled across, sorting some tunes yesterday. Remembered because of that wonderful summer of 76, however, this had it's first release way back in 73...and sunk without trace.
Radio One played this alot back in the day, probably due to it being a short tune. Nice one to squeeze in before the news!
Roger Collins was around early 60's, signed to Fantasy Records, limited success in The States. "She's Lookin' Good" a minor hit there way back in 66.
This was his only UK hit, and despite touring with big names like Ike & Tina Turner and Joe Tex, Collins retired in 74 opening a repair business, changing name too.
Here we go with a tne which always stood out from the crowd for me, latched onto by Northern Soul brothers & sisters. Alongside radio plays, Rodger Collins peaked at No 22 in the top 40 back in the Spring/summer of 76....Top song "You Sexy Sugar Plumb"
Bonus points if you spot our mystery dancer in the video? Look closely and maybe ask some friends?! Wiggy

Wiggy's Sounds Of The 70s Disco Way back in 1973 this tune started boomin' out of UK radio, got my 'Soul Ball' rolling.
Starting off life as "Tri-boro exchange" Stateside producers Wille Farell and Thom Bell started producing the band New York City. You'll recognise one of them.......Nile Rodgers part of the Chic duo who backed up the wonderful lead vocals from Tom McQueen.
Bell Records grabbed this for release here, and a massive one hit wonder was born, despite back up of a REAL quality debut album.
New York City ( from where all it's members came) disbanded, but the roots for the Chic organisation, were already in bud.
Here's a brilliant remix from the genius Tom Moulton, taking an already AMAZING track, up to top floor level.

Wiggy's Sounds Of The 70s Disco Move over Mrs Jones, here's our favourite "Philly" from Paul Williams AKA Billy Paul. He took on Jerry Butler's 1968 classic, moved it up a few flights of stairs. Elvis covered in his own way a year later (in comments), and The Trammps came close to Paul's version in the blazing hot summer of 76
Back to the not so sun drenched 1977, and a brilliant tune on those 70's dancefloors :) Wiggy

Feelgood Friday and the chance to post a few gems, normally on our 70's decks across the weekend. Here's the group who started out as "The Children Of Howard Hughes", then 2Howard Hughes Corporation!2 Their record company rejected the name, but knew that had a massive winner... with "Rock The Boat"
Shrunk it up to The Hues Corporation, and 1974 "Rock The Boat" was all over UK radio, and early stateside and UK discos.
They followed it up with another great tune "Rockin' Soul", which is rarely played these days.
Infectious feelgood rhythms, so we're running with this...Enjoy!

Thursday 9th April, and when in lockdown, sun blazingdown on Barrybados, the need for a "Hot Tune"
Make no apologies if it's a replay, cos it's one of THE best summer vibes ever. Friend Bruce Blackman on lead vocals, massive tune all over UK radio, back to the long hot one of 1976.
Managed to find a great live version too! Enjoy the sun, BUT keep it family only :)

Four Seasons immensely talented musicians, and it wasn't all about Franki Valli. Another amazing Bob Gaudio composition, filled to the brim with summer vibes. Rarely played on UK radio which is a shame, such a feelgood tune! Shine on "Silver 🌟". Wiggy

Back to clubs late seventies, this is when it was all kicking off. Soooo many tunes released by the companies, imports flying in, new venues opening, left right and centreπŸŽ‰
I can remember working at The Department Of Employment, Cardiff. Birthday parties 3-4 nights a week if you wanted to party. In one door "Champers" to another, then pop down to "Bumpers"in High Street, Arcade. How we input data to that computer next day I'll never know?!πŸ€ͺ
Crazy times, packed full of wicked dance tunes, punters came to boogie everynight.πŸ’ƒ
We still play tunes like Slick "Space Bass", on our 70s nights. Hopefully they can return, and we can party in the future. Big song, sounds incredible on a big system. Enjoyo! 🎺

Wiggy's Sounds Of The 70s Disco Wanted to touchdown here today, one of my favourite all time tunes...and bands. Welshman and great alround musician Peter Hope-Evans harmonica, Jew's harp, guitarist, and mouthbow player, and John Fiddler on the skins. Their biggest tune back in 1973 "One & One Is One", but here with another delectable dose of tuneage with "Rising Sun"
You'll remember Medicine Head for some brilliant 70s vibes!?! Hugely talented, some of these will never be beaten :)

I remember Arista Records were desperate to get Raydio off the ground. We were bombarded with 7" promos at the time, letters, fax even for "Jack & Jill" Their catch phrase, we had drummed in was, "If you play it....say it, R-a-y-d-i-o!"
They knew they had a winner, and despite Radio OneπŸ†lack of playlist support, the clubs led the way. They eventually followed and Raydio were born πŸ˜‰

Happy Sundrenched Sunday, checkin' in from the westside- Barrybados, with more AMAZING 70's memories
Blue Eyed Soul at it's brilliant best, Elvin Bishop from our blistering summer of 76. I can recall walking the corridors of school, tr**ny radio hidden in blazer, wired in through my shirt, listening to Elvin climb Johnny Walker's Radio One top 40, Tuesday chart.
Unbeknown to the teacher, I relayed all the new entries, climbers and the new number one to the whole class!! Science sat at the back of the lesson ;)
Thinking back, maybe one of the first things thatattracted me to radio presenting . What a magical tune this is, not played enough on gold stations these days. Please feel free to share the page, to friends who like their tunes.
Enjoyo!

Saturday night calls for Barry Ian Green, one of the U'K's most prolific songwriters, performers and producers. Worked and wriiten tunes with Diana Ross & Celine Dion, produced 70's legends Heatwave, helping Beggar & Co with their funk classic "Somebody Help Me Out" early 80s..Green has also written scores and theme tunes for filmland.."Escape To Athena" and " Long Good Friday" two notably worth a shout.
Probably early disco, even though he got bracketed into "Glam Rock" I stumbled across my copy whilst sorting tunes the other day.
Following up "Dancing On A Saturday Night" his first UK hit. Here comes Barry Blue from 1973, with the classic "Do You Wanna Dance" Happy weekend! Wiggy Wiggy's Sounds Of The 70s Disco

Bernard William Jewry on the decks today, aka Alvin Stardust. Jewry had started life as Shane Fenton through the sixties, and his band disbanded. Magnet Records boss Pete (Gee Baby) Shelley recorded "My Coo Ca Choo" but had no intention of ever performing live.
As the song started to break and shootup the charts, the company were on the look out for someone to play the character, based on Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" and C lister Vince Taylor. Jewry's management got in touch and Stardust the character appeared in his tight black jump suit and matching gloves on Top Of The Pops. Jewry lip synching the tune, miming to fool us all!
The follow up "Jealous Mind" saw Jewry on vocals, and was a chart topper in Britain in 74. More top ten hits followed aswell.
So back to 1973 for a pretty convincing performance. Alvin Stardust "My Coo Ca Choo"

The Real Thing - Whenever You Want My Love

Wednesday to keep The Real Thing theme, I've picked out a top tune from 1978. For me up there with "You To Me" with it's jolly rolling bass, and outstanding Amoo vocals.
The band were formed early 70's signing to EMI Records with limited success. An appearance with Hughie Green and the infamous 'clapometer' Opportunity Knocks, and Chris Amoo's brother Eddie joining the band started the hit machine.
Switching to Pye Records they were the most successful black rock/soul act in the U.K. during the 1970s.
Here is "Whenever You Want My Love" a brilliant uptempo song, which reached number 18 in the UK top 40 The song features on the band's new "Greatest Hits" comiplation now available. Wiggy Wiggy's Sounds Of The 70s Disco The Real Thing

Everything - The Real Thing

If you're a fan of 70's soul, you'll no doubt be a fan of The Real Thing. They changed the face of crossover soul tunes in the UK, back in that beautiful summer 0f 76. Their timeless tune, "You To Me Are Everything", still played worldwide on radio stations, including one of mine Swansea Sound. It's probably one of THE biggest on Wiggy's Sounds Of The 70s Disco wall to wall 70's nights too!
The boys have a fabulous documentary film of their career, and it's coming your way soon! Have a read and see the trailer, this will be a night NOT too be missed! Wiggy

VAN McCOY - the hustle (1975) (HQ)

Happy New Year and we are back for 2020 with a brilliant selection of 70's memories. Thanks to friend Jonathan for remembering the start of the golden age of "Disco". Producer Van Allen Clinton McCoy, who went on to have a short but glittering career, after dropping out of University studying psychology, to form "Rockin' Records"
McCoy wrote song after song for big names including Gladys Knight, Erma Franklin,Jackie Wilson, "I Get The Sweetest Feeling"
His two big s**t ingles in the UK were "The Shuffle" the follow up to this top ten hit from summer 1975, "The Hustle"( lifted from a magical album "The Disco Kid"
Mccoy went on to write Melba Moore's big soul crossover tune "This Is It", and also formed mid 70's soul dup Peaches & Herb.
Died sadly far too young in 1979 aged just 39. Great memories of this and STILL a favourite tune on your 70's playlists, on Wiggy's Sounds Of The 70s Disco...Wall to wall 70's and memories, making your party one you'll never forget, and..... "A Night To Remember!" Wiggy

CHRIS SQUIRE & ALAN WHITE 'Run With The Fox' [HQ 'Stereo' AUDIO] 1080p

"Wiggy's Christmas Musical Advent Calendar" a rare tune written, produced, performed by prog rock group Yes bassist Chris Squire and Alan White.
Barry Rose an old friend who used to be in the same choir, enlisted St Andrews Church Kingsbury to provide the backing. The flipside an instrumental version co written by King Crimson's Pete Sinefield.
After this collaboration, the boys hooked up in the band Cinema, before eventually reforming Yes. Fabulous festive fayre always been one of my all time favourite tunes. Thanks to Ken Bruce at Radio 2 for playing this as his first Christmas tune this year.
