We're down to -5° tonight, Tuesday 6th January 2026 but after 1 am the temperature should gradually rise until we get to 0° by 9 am. The increase in temperature is because we have an increase in cloud cover. From 2 am onward light cloud builds and gradually becomes dark cloud until by 9 am we are 45% likely to have snow. And that percentage is only going to increase. By 11 am we are 69% likely to have snow.
The temperature is also increasing though. At 11 am it is 2° and by noon it is 3° and that is too warm for snow. Somewhere between 11 am and noon any snow should turn to rain and we should see slush, melt water and the snow and ice gradually disappearing.
For the rest of Tuesday we remain at 3° and the likelihood of rain varies from 56% at 1 pm to 100%; with rain being more likely from 5 pm onwards. We are due heavy rain between 9 pm and 11 pm, which is when the likelihood is 100%.
3° is very close to the point where we could have snow and ice though and with that in mind we have a yellow weather warning for snow and ice that is in place until 11 am but acknowledgement from the BBC that wind chill will make the temperature feel like -1° even when it's +3°. So we could have lingering pockets of snow and ice in sheltered spots even after several hours of getting wet. However it does seem as though the current cold spell will be finished at some point during this afternoon.
Winds are shifting towards the South West - a warmer direction - and they gradually increase in speed as the day goes on. Overnight wind speeds are ~ 4 mph but they reach 10 mph by mid afternoon and 14 mph during the evening. By the end of the day wind direction has moved entirely to the West.
UV and Pollution are both Low; Visibility is Very Good until 5 am when the thicker cloud drops it to Good. It drops to Moderate by 8 am and stays there until 4 pm when it drops again to Poor. From then until the end of the day Visibility varies according to the amount of cloud cover and rain we get. Heavier and darker cloud coverage with heavier rain means poor Visibility. Less of either will bring it up to Moderate.
Humidity is at 90% by 7 am and 96% by 9 am. Then it starts to fall and gets to 87% by 3 pm. After that it rises again and we leave Tuesday on 91%.
It's a day of weather changes Pendle people. We start cold and snowy and end cold and wet. This means you need to dress for two types of weather if you're going to be out for the majority of the day. You'll still need to be aware of the potential risks of ice and snow in the morning and the risks of slush and rain in the afternoon and evening. In either case you'll still need to dress warm. I hope you all have a good day and look after yourselves.
