From Monday 15 July, the Lower Seam car park will be closed for 3 weeks. This is to allow site investigation works to take place as part of the The Seam phase one development.

During this time, visitors can use our alternative car parks available across the Town Centre.

💯 Tech jobs welcomed to South Yorkshire! 🎉

We're delighted to announce that this month has seen the Tech Welcome Grant bring in the 100th job to the region since the grant launched!

Not only does the grant welcome tech businesses from outside the region to relocate here, but it also supports tech start ups already based here to acquire their very first office space.

Updated plans for The Seam🚨

Barnsley Council have approved plans for a new approach to developing Phase 1 plans - We're swapping plans for a multistorey car park and residential, for a more welcoming space for visitors, commuters, and businesses alike.

Cllr Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “We see The Seam as the heart of Barnsley's future economy. All economic growth will be powered by the use of digital and new technologies. This will help place Barnsley at the forefront of the digital productivity revolution and create opportunities for our residents to learn new essential digital skills for life and for work. These updated proposals will allow us to get moving on improvements we want to see as soon as possible.

“If we stand still, the borough’s economy will stand still. That’s why we’ve revisited our plans for the Seam and moving ahead with this first phase, while we continue to look at funding opportunities and partnerships for a second phase.

“Our digital campus in the town centre is a key part of our recently announced South Yorkshire Investment Zone. This will bolster the already attractive offer for innovative businesses looking to invest in Barnsley alongside our existing digital and tech companies and strengthen the growing reputation for Barnsley as a destination for digital businesses.”

We'll be having an official welcome from Oliver Coppard & a Key Note from Gary Stewart as well as launching some exciting news for the region.

Building on the successful Economic Summit in March, the South Yorkshire Tech Summit will bring together industry expertise, business leaders and senior decision makers from across South Yorkshire and beyond to hear from a range of thought leaders and experts about the importance of a vibrant tech and digital economy in the region.

Cabinet members have today approved the next stages for The Seam, Barnsley's Digital Campus.

Following public consultation held in February, we gained over 500 responses to help shape our plans.

"We have ambitious plans for The Seam to create a place that will bring together people, business, education and the public sector."
