Resurfacing work to shut car park for six weeks

Long-awaited work to resurface Aylsham’s Buttlands car park is set to start on April 29 – with the site expected to be closed for six weeks.

The free car park, which is operated by Broadland District Council, has been blighted by extensive pot-holes.

A sign informing drivers about the work has been placed at the entrance to the car park and it will be completely closed to vehicles and pedestrians for the period of the work.

Last year, Just Aylsham reported how Broadland District Council was coming under pressure from Aylsham Town Council and district councillor Steve Riley for repair work to be carried out.

The town council said it had regularly reported problems with the surface of the car park and expressed concerns for users of the car park and the many pedestrians who use the site as a route into the town.

A spokesperson for Broadland District Council said: “The car park owned by Broadland District Council will be closed for six weeks while the work takes place. Visitors to the market town will still be able to park for free in the Council’s car park on Burgh Road.”
