'TRAP' is another recent feature shot on 35mm. Here writer and director M.Night Shyamalan explains how he plans and executes tense thrillers like this one. Shooting on film means being truly intentional with your filmmaking, it means shooting more than just coverage, it's knowing where your camera is and why.

Last year we struck a print of this groundbreaking short film that screened at the Viennale.
We Don’t Talk Like We Used To by Joshua Gen Solondz is an avant-garde film capturing personal and geopolitical themes through a unique 35mm format. The choice of 35mm is central, lending the film a textured, raw aesthetic that mirrors the film’s reflective exploration of identity, culture, and change. This format allows Solondz to layer images and create a “palimpsestic” effect, evoking memories and transformations with a tactile depth that resonates deeply, enhancing the emotional and visual intensity of the viewing experience. For more, visit Viennale.
Avant-garde short films use experimental, abstract visuals to push cinematic boundaries, often focusing on mood and texture over narrative. Shooting on 35mm film enhances this artistry, offering rich detail, natural grain, and a tactile, timeless quality that digital lacks. The medium’s limitations—like finite film stock and costly processing—push filmmakers to carefully plan each shot, resulting in highly intentional and visually striking work. In a digital era, choosing 35mm is a deliberate, artistic choice that combines modern experimentalism with the classic beauty of film, creating a unique sensory experience that resonates with audiences on an emotional level.

🎬✨ This Black History Month in the UK & Ireland, we're celebrating the groundbreaking film "Pressure" by Horace Ové—now beautifully restored to 4K from its original 16mm print! 📽️

Released in 1976, Pressure was the first feature film by a Black British director and is a powerful portrayal of the struggles faced by a young Black man navigating identity, racism, and generational tensions in Britain. So much more than just cinema—it's a vital record of the Black experience in the UK.

The 4K restoration done by National Archive and was released last year.

But Restoration is not just about upgrading visuals from celluloid to 4k digital; it's about preserving our cinematic heritage, ensuring future generations can witness and learn from these stories. CPC has struck prints of restored 35mm films so they may be seen as they were intended.

So let's celebrate Black History Month and remember the importance of preserving these cultural treasures so they can continue their discourse. 🖤🎥

We are passionate about and restoring cinematic heritage just as much as printing new films. The cool folks at AGFA (American Genre Film Archive) feel much the same way. They chose to present their "Cult of Agfa Trailer Show" via a newly struck 35mm theatrical film print that we were thrilled to work on.

77 minutes of choice extracts from the vaults of the American Genre Film Archive (AGFA), THE CULT OF AGFA TRAILER SHOW is the surreal sequel to THE AGFA HORROR TRAILER SHOW. This compilation features rare trailers, commercials, and ephemera—all of which were preserved and scanned exclusively for this project. Check out the Blu-ray on their Instagram page and support film conservation.

A slightly related bit of trivia: did you know that ORWO Film (our parent company) is manufactured in Wolfen and the Wolfen factory was founded by AGFA in 1910 where the first modern colour film was developed!

35mm film is back and alive again. We can now print your digitally shot film onto prints to screen it at and open-air cinemas everywhere! Contact us today for special package deals and to discuss your print requirements.
