❤️🏠❤️ They say, 'home is where the heart is'.

Staying in your own home for as long as possible is the preference for many older people and their families. However, getting out of your home at times can be just as important to your enjoyment of life in later years.
This can be a challenge for many people for various reasons; reduced mobility, lack of transport, loss of confidence, to name a few.

It is a key aim of our service, that wherever possible, we encourage our clients to leave the home for a while, which can be so rewarding. We're able to accompany our clients, driving them wherever is needed; for a regular shopping trip, a walk in the park, a browse in the garden centre and a little stop in the cafe, a trip to the community centre to join with a class or event. We can be there throughout, enabling social interaction, which is so important for us all.

Send us a message or give us a call to make an enquiry, we're always happy to chat. 😁

Where do you want to go to?🚗

Driving is a luxury that many of us take for granted. Unfortunately, as we age, unavoidably this can sometimes mean, that we have to give up for safety reasons.

For many older people this can be hugely debilitating and they can feel their world is shrinking. That's why, when setting up our service, we felt it was very important that all of our companions should be drivers, enabling them to accompany our clients to the places they want and need to get to.

He has also kindly offered to write an up-to-date quarterly article that we will share in our Newsletters.

It was great to visit the beautiful Chertsey Parklands Manor Care Home today. It's a wonderfully luxurious home from home with staff and residents that are happy and engaged 😁

Robyn had a lovely reunion with Anja from Companionship Services Ltd. today. Robyn first met Anja eight years ago before her days at Parklands Manor, so it was nice to catch up and hear all about what her and her team do.

Anja's service provides vital support for individuals facing loneliness, mobility issues or those simply needing assistance. Her team's dedication to encouraging clients to engage in enjoyable activities, like shopping, swimming or museum visits, and offering help with organization or a listening ear, is truly commendable.

Chertsey Parklands Manor Care Home looks forward to working alongside Companionship services this year.

We were so grateful to have been invited along to the Carer’s Coffee Morning at Spelthorne Dementia Support earlier this week. 🙏
It was great to see the amazing work of the Purple Angels in action and to meet local people who are supporting someone living with dementia.

The coffee morning, held every other Monday at The Greeno Centre in Shepperton, offers support and a little respite for carers of those living with dementia. We know it can be a challenge to take time away as a carer, but our service is something that can help fill this gap - enabling carers to take much needed time out, knowing that their loved one has company and can be doing something they enjoy too.

Alternate Mondays, Spelthorne Dementia Support also put on entertainment and lunch for people living with dementia and their carers. Check out their website for more info about this, as well as The Dementia Choir (Fridays) and other services and support they offer.

Thank you Purple Angels 🟣👼

Motivation!

In January some of us can find our motivation lacking at times. It's usually when we have our most harsh weather and for some older people this can mean more time isolated indoors.
We've got a few ideas on how you (or your older loved one) can keep busy and upbeat this month even if you're stuck indoors. To see our full list in our latest newsletter and to receive useful tips and advice on email monthly please subscribe on our website https://www.comanionship-services.com.

Here are a few ideas for keeping occupied.
1️⃣Get your new diary or calendar for the new year filled in with important dates, birthdays, anniversaries and your scheduled appointments.🗓

2️⃣ Look through your favourite recipes and choose an old favourite or something new to bake and treat yourself to. Maybe there's someone that you would like to invite over to share your meal. 📖

3️⃣ Organise your photos into albums or look through your albums and enjoy reminiscing. 📸

4️⃣ Sort out a cupboard. Choose a cupboard to reorganise, getting rid of anything that is no longer needed and reordering, so you can find things more easily. 🗄

5️⃣ Write a letter to a friend or family member, or give them a call for a chat. 📝

6️⃣Feed the birds. Position a feeder somewhere you can comfortably see it from inside your home. You will be rewarded with visits from feathered friends. It can be quite interesting to see how many types of birds visit your outside space.🐦

🙏Thank you to Monica Jones at Sunbury & Shepperton Matters for writing and sharing a piece on our new service.

The village magazines she creates are a vital source of information to the residents of Sunbury and Shepperton. The work and heart she has put in over the past 15 years shows in all she does for the community.

We're certainly very grateful and hope our service reaches those that may not have access to social media, the clients we want to support back into the community by providing a quality companionship and support service. ❣️

By this time of year lots of us are starting to feel Christmassy. And if we're busy with life and work we're probably looking forward to some downtime and spending the time with loved ones over the festive season.
If you have elderly family, Christmas can be a time that we naturally take stock of how they're doing. Another year is about to pass and some may be finding various daily tasks more challenging than this time last year and they may not be thriving as you would hope, or getting out as often as you or they would like.
So with families getting together, it can be a good time to open a conversation about what assistance could be useful going into the new year. If companionship is the right service, or if you'd like to find out more, then don't hesitate to get in touch. htpps://www.companionship-services.com/contact-us

A question we get asked sometimes is, 'how is your service different to that of a care company or agency?'

Unlike a Carer, a Companion does not get involved in any personal or medical care needs. Instead our focus is solely on (and it sounds obvious) companionship; supporting older people to get the most from life. Helping them to get out and about to join activities and be part of the community.

For an older person with no specific care or medical needs, or where Carers are already providing for this, they may still have needs that are not being met that are fundamental to us as human beings. Social interaction, mental stimulation and a weekly routine that offers some variety day-to-day can be hugely enriching. Offering personal assistance, we can also help our clients with light housework and personal admin.

We think it's really important to live a fulfilled life. If you know someone who you think could benefit, please let them know about our service.
