CANET Show

CANET Show Welcome to CANET! Hi!! Welcome to the CANET show page. Culture And North East Theatre (CANET) does exactly what it says on the tin.

It's a show dedicated to the arts straight from the North East presented by me, Becca, on Lionheart Radio 107.3fm or online at www.lionheartradio.com. I am not a theatre person and I don't know much about this world so please come on this journey with me as we find out all about culture and Theatre. Find out the answers that you have always wondered about theatre like "why can't you whistle in a t

heatre?" or "why is it unlucky to mention 'The Scottish Play' by name?". I will also be (hopefully) chatting to some talented people from this industry and learning about upcoming events, playing theatre inspired games and more. If you are involved with the arts world, are from or based in The North East and would like a chance to talk about your work then please feel free to get in touch with me [email protected]

Plans for show 9 on 4th February
I will be telling you part 2 of my theatre experience from outside of school this time. The ones I went to willingly and actually enjoyed. Also my cultural person this time is someone well known in these parts and if you live in or around the Alnwick area you will know of him as he seems to get everywhere in this town.
Also just after 4:15pm I will be chatting to my first guest of 2025! Local author Hilary Elder will be chatting to me about her work as a writer, her new upcomming book that's coming out this year and her new online writing course, Crafting Lines. I hope you enjoy it and if you would like to talk about a project then please send an email to [email protected]

First show of 2025!!

Plan for show 8 on 7th January - the first CANET show of 2025!
I keep saying that I am not a theatre person and for the most part that is true. I have had a lot of experience seeing theatre, mainly while at school, which I had forgot about due to one bad experience. I am going to face up to that now though. 20 years later but better late than never right? I also thought it was THAT man's fault but while he didn't help matters it wasn't actually him. I hope you enjoy it and if you would like to talk about a project then please send an email [email protected]

How is it 2025 in 2 weeks time? Where has this year gone? I am not just taking about these shows but this entire year has gone very fast!
I just wanted to say a massive thanks to all of my guests, listeners and followers for this year. Your support means a lot to me. When I started CANET in June this year I had no idea how it would work but I do really enjoy doing them and I have had some amazing feedback from guests and also listeners to Lionheart which is incredible. I never thought that would happen and I do really appreciate it.
I will be starting plans for 2025 the week between Christmas and New Year AKA the week that doesn't seem to end! I do have plans for the show on the 7th January which I will tell you about nearer the time.
I do hope to have more amazing guests next year and maybe I will come up with some new ideas, There is one thing I do want to do but I have no idea how to do it! Please don't forget if you would like to come on and talk about a project that your involved with feel free to send an email.

I hope you all have an amazing time over Christmas and thanks again for your support.
See you in the New Year
Becca x

Plans for show 7 on 3rd December- the last CANET show of 2024!
How is it the last one of the year already?? It feels like I was just planning the first one 2 minutes ago!
Anyway, on this show, just after 4:15pm, I will be chatting to the lovely Emma and a few young people from the Dansformation group in Alnwick about what they are up to and how dance can have huge benefits for people, no matter who you are of where you come from. Having had first hand experience of the huge and very surprising benefits of dance myself I feel this will be a very interesting conversation.
I also had to do something again. The cultural person this time is a huge influence around this time of year and he's not even a real person! Also nobody seems to know if this person was based on a real person or whether they were just a fragment of someone's imagination.
I hope you enjoy it!

Well that was a fun show today and a very good planning meeting for the next show. When there is coffee it's always good...

How is it show 6 already? That and I also can't believe that is has taken me this long to talk about books! I love reading and I have some book reccomendations for you! If you have any that you would like to share with me and other people please feel free to share them.
I also will be sharing with you my thoughts on the Rude Health fesitval I have just helped out with during October.
Also there will be no prizes for guessing who the person of culture is for this show! It had to be done! The date is too perfect!

Show 5 plans for Tuesday 1st October:
I said last month that The Tute who are based in Cambois had two upcoming projects. The first one was Cambois Hidden depths in partnership with November Club. A project that celebrated the history and heritage of Cambois using dance and drama that I was a part of. I will be reflecting on that and sharing with you my experience of being a part of a dance film and monologue reading for the very first time. Even I am surprised at how I felt! I will also be talking about the Tute's next project, Rude Health, which is a month long festival of performances during October.
I will also be chatting to Jeremy Bradfield about his work as a composer and the project he will be working on as part of the Rude Health festival between 4 and 5pm.
Also over the last few shows I have been looking at people of culture linked with the North East and I found someone who was a big part of my childhood and it blew my mind when I found out recently he was from up here! I know you probably knew that but I didn't!
(Don't forget if you have a project, or know of a project, relating to the arts and would like to talk about it then please feel free to send an email)
