In a 2022 Gallup Poll on occupational burnout, 44% of American K-12 teachers reported feeling burned out “often” or “always.” UNESCO says that “Globally we need to increase the number of teachers by 50% by 2030.” Clearly, help is needed – could AI be the answer?

Supporting students with disabilities, aiding independent study, lesson planning, classroom management, and grading and feedback are five ways researchers say AI can help lessen the burden for teachers in the classroom.

We’re pleased to announce that Taylor & Francis has published more than 2,200 Open Access books since we launched our OA Books Program in 2013.

OA books are more likely than non-OA books to have been mentioned in the news media, and a typical OA book from our collection has more than double the number of citations (compared to non-OA books).

As a broad term which encourages accessibility, transparency, and reproducibility of research and supporting information, Open Research includes the practices of sharing data, code, preprints, and methods, or working in new ways such as Registered Reports.

From smart speakers to online product recommendations, many teachers and educational leaders use artificial intelligence (AI) applications daily. However, few are using AI in the classroom. A 2024 survey found that only 18% of U.S. teachers use AI at work.

What do you think? Should AI be incorporated into teaching and education as another tool along with calculators and computers?

New data from our Taylor & Francis Open Access Books Team shows that the usage of open access (OA) eBooks is even greater than previous research has shown.

Undertaken by Amy Welmers, Content Development Manager, the goal for this analysis was to further our understanding of the impact of publishing a title "born OA" on the usage of the eBook version via taylorfrancis.com, compared with similar non-OA titles.

The data revealed that in the first 12 months after publication, born OA titles are, on average, accessed from three times as many countries as their non-OA counterparts. In addition, on average, OA eBooks are utilized by 100 institutions, compared with 25 for non-OA eBooks.

We are pleased to announce that Taylor & Francis eBooks are now accessible via GetFTR (Get Full Text Research).

GetFTR streamlines the researcher journey by checking permissions, directly with the publisher, at the point of discovery and facilitates access directly to the article or book chapter the researcher wants to read. The GetFTR indicator on search results tells researchers which content their institution has made available to them and takes them directly to that research on participating publisher websites.

Mark Heaver, Senior Product Manager, says: “This integration is a significant step forward ensuring that researchers accessing Taylor & Francis content are provided with streamlined access to the correct platform and content.”

Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are home to 85% of the world's population but produce just 0.2% of researchers, so increasing these numbers is crucial. We’re committed to development initiatives that support librarians, authors, and researchers in low- and middle-income countries, and work with organizations such as Research4Life, whose mission is to “build an inclusive, diverse, and equitable scholarly communications environment.”

Our Research and Analytics Manager Tiffany Drake, along with Sustainability Manager Catherine Hodgson, found 4,500 articles, published by researchers from Research4Life countries in the past 4 years, affiliated with an Education institute, that cited at least one pay-to-read Taylor & Francis article from a journal to which Taylor & Francis provides Research4Life access.
