Access to the lake of Thoux-St. Cricq is now forbidden whilst the water is tested after a veterinarian reported a possible presence of cyanobacteria, a type of algae that produces toxins that can be harmful to humans and animals.

All nautical activities have also been suspended and the current recommendation is that owners don't allow dogs drink or get in touch with the lake water.

This is part of a project intitulated "Itinéraires Artistiques en Pays Portes de Gascogne" which aims to bring art to various villages in the East Gers.

The Base de Loisirs in L'Isle-Jourdain is now partially open. The wakeboarding area, the skate park and the walking paths are accessible but the playground and the beach will remain closed for a while longer.

🦠🧤🗑 WHERE TO DISPOSE OF USED MASKS, GLOVES, WIPES AND TISSUES

More people are wearing masks and other protective equipment but it's important to highlight that they can't be thrown away alongside our normal domestic waste.

The current guidelines are:

🚮 Gloves, masks, wipes, tissues and any other disposable protective equipment should be discarded in a separate bag exclusively for this purpose

🚮 When full, seal it and keep it in your house for at least 24 hours

🚮 Put the bag in the domestic waste bins

🚮 Don't ever put these materials in the bins reserved to recyclable items (the yellow ones)

🍷🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️Saint-Mont has just announced the second edition of the Vignoble en Course, which will take place in Aignan (50km west of Auch) on September 19, 2020.

There will be three races through the vineyards this year (8, 12 and 20km) plus two walking circuits with nine stalls for those who'd like to try local food and drinks. Children will have their own race and there will be accrobranche and other activities for them as well.

The day will close with a party starting at 8pm in the Arènes d'Aignan.

🌿 May 1st and the Muguet 🌿

As in many other countries, Labor Day in France is celebrated on May 1st. A very local tradition is to offer a sprig of lily-of-the-valley (muguet, in French) to family and friends as a symbol of love and good luck. That’s also why this date is known in France as “Fête du Muguet”.

Tradition says that on May 1st, 1651, King Charles IX was given a bouquet of lily-of-the-valley to bring him luck and prosperity for the next year. He liked the idea and began offering the flowers to the ladies of his court every year on the same day.

But can we celebrate May Day like this during the confinement? Yes, but with a few precautions. In the past one could find people selling these flowers everywhere, even on the streets. This year, however, only florists and a few other shops are allowed to sell them.

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe revealed yesterday the government’s deconfinement plan which was approved by the National Assembly on a 368-100 vote. The strategy was outlined as “protect, test, isolate” and Philippe stressed that the process will be slow and subject to eventual changes. Here’s what you need to know about the new measures:

☑️ From May 7, departments will be classed as Green or Red, depending on virus circulation, hospital capacity, and availability of tests. Only Green departments will be allowed to proceed with deconfinement.

☑️Travel will be allowed within 100km of home and no forms will be needed. Travel to other departments and regions should be limited and any journey beyond 100km will only be authorized for work or family emergency.

☑️ Masks will be compulsory on public transport.

☑️ 700 000 are expected to be conducted every week. Anyone tested positive will be isolated and those who have had contact with someone tested positive will be tested as well.

☑️ Schools will open on a voluntary basis. Primary and maternelle students will return to their classes on May 1. The first two years of collège start on May 18 but only in green departments. Lycée might start at the beginning of June depending on a decision to be announced at the end of May. Masks will be required for collège but not for primary and maternelle due to misuse risk.

☑️ Employees that can work from home should continue to do so.

☑️ Gatherings will be limited to 10 people and no religious ceremonies will be allowed before June 2.

☑️ Libraries and small museums will reopen on May 11. Cinemas, concert halls and large museums will remain closed.
Parcs and public gardens will open on May 11 but only in green departments. Beaches will remain closed until the beginning of June.

☑️ Individual sports will be allowed but group, contact, and indoor sports will remain forbidden.

☑️ Gatherings of more than 5000 people will not be allowed before September.

☑️ Shops will reopen on May 11. Open-air markets may also open if they can guarantee safety measures. Cafés, bars and restaurants might open at the beginning of June depending on a decision to be announced at the end of May.

Philippe also said that all measures above are conditioned to the progression of the virus and they might be changed if the numbers show the need for confinement.

PHARMACIES ARE ONCE AGAIN ALLOWED TO SELL FACE MASKS

Since Sunday all pharmacies are allowed to sell face masks to the general public, if they have them in stock. Previously they could only be supplied to healthcare workers.

The masks available will be Type 1 or 2 and will cost between 2 and 5 euros for the more basic models, and 10 and 50 euros for washable and more durable ones.

The pharmacies that have ran out of stock will obviously take a while longer to make them available so it might be worth it to call before leaving the house.

Jean-Michel Blanquer, Minister of Education, has detailed for the first time the government's plan for the reopening of the schools starting on May 11. According to this proposal, classes will resume on three different dates:

✏️May 11: GS, CP and CM2
✏️May 18: Sixième, Troisième, Première and Terminale
✏️May 25: All the remaining classes

It's been also stressed that every class will have a maximum of 15 students. In order to achieve this, every school will have their students reassigned in four different categories:

➡️In groups of half
➡️Homeschooling, if it can be ensured
➡️Returning to school if the latter can adequately receive them
➡️In physical activities if the commune is capable of offering them

President Macron has spoken and the confinement will be extended until the 11th of May. A more detailed plan for deconfinement will be revealed in about two weeks. The key points of his speech:

➡️France's borders with non-European countries will remain shut
➡️People belonging to any risk groups should remain confined longer for their own sake
➡️Crèches, schools, colleges and lycées will open progressively while universities will stay closed at least until Summer
➡️ Restaurants, cafés, hotels, theaters, concert halls, and cinemas will remain closed and festivals won't take place until mid-July
➡️Testing capabilities are being increased and by the 11th of May France should be able to test anyone with Covid-19 symptoms
➡️Masks will be distributed in a joint effort with the local mairies
