Eastern style axe-head. This axe, with its backwards projecting k**b, is typical of weapons from eastern Baltic lands. It was found in Russia’s Kazan region on the Volga river, but is decorated in a Scandinavian style with gold inlay that depicts a sword piercing a serpent from below – possibly a reference to the legend of Sigurd the dragon-slayer. 11-12 century AD.

Seventeenth-century coat of armor made from pangolin scales. This suit was presented to Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, on his tour of India in 1875. Pangolin-scale armor was not uncommon in India during this period; the Indian pangolin is now considered endangered.

THE OLDEST GOLD TREASURE IN THE WORLD is the Varna Necropolis found in Bulgaria which dates to 6500 years ago. Most would have guessed the oldest gold artifacts came from Mesopotamia or Egypt, but the ancient civilization in Thrace has them beat. More than 22,000 artifacts have been recovered from Varna, including 3000 gold items weighing 13 POUNDS! The site has at least 312 graves, but just four of these contained three quarters of the gold. Grave 43 by itself contained more gold than has been found in the entire rest of the world for this period. It contained a man (pictured) with many adornments including a golden p***s sheath. The site indicates that this ancient society was already highly-stratified and male-oriented. There are two leading theories as to what caused the demise of this civilization: 1) Horse-riding invaders from the east, and/or 2) Climate change that raised sea levels and flooded mines and farms. Here's the article: https://www.ancient-origins.net/ancient-places-europe/varna-man-002798
