If you are like me, I love using samples on Toms.
But sometimes the drummer plays a very nice drum feel with polyrhythms and if you only use the samples you will lose the feeling.
If you run protools and slate trigger 2 you can, on the automation plugin section control the output volume of the sampler.
So can keep the impact of the sample while maintaining the reel groove.

While the 1k is for the character of the sound, the 2K will give you attack or thickness.
In a Rock situation you may push the 2K while in a Country or RNB genre you won’t need this frequency at all.

Live kick drum is always fun to work with and adding some punch and thickness is very interesting if you try this technique.
1) Duplicate the kick track
2) On the Duplicated one add the 560 Eq from waves or UAD
3) Boost 7Dbs at 8K / 4K / 125Hz and 63 Hz
4) Remove 7Dbs at 250Hz and 500Hz
Balance with the original track and enjoy the result 😃

Let’s turn live toms into something big without samples.
We often tend to use samples to help the sound of our single drum elements.
We also try to work with the direct source when the tracking is pretty interesting.
On Toms, if you work with a channel strip try to tweak this way :
1) high pass filter at 40Hz
2) Boost at 100Hz
3) Cut at 500Hz
4) Boost at 6Khz
5) Boost at 9Khz
The amount of gain is according to your personal tastes.
This will give you a solid starting point for your Toms elements.

Sometimes when you mix a song you want to add some depth and stereo image on some instruments.
Here a mono guitar part becomes a stereo pair.
To achieve that it is pretty simple.
Yet there is a condition : the guitar parts has to be played entirely without being copy/paste. If there is several same parts, even it is tempting to copy/paste from the first moment, play it anyway.
Then you create a new mono track and copy/paste the different moments.
For example :
The verse represents 8 measures but the first 4 bars are the same as the second 4 bars.
You copy the second group of 4 bars « measure 5 to 8 » and paste them on your second track from measure 1 to 4.
Then you do the opposite.
Copy the first 4 bars of the 1st guitar and copy them to your second guitar measure 5 to 8.
Pan 100% left one guitar and 100% right the other one.
You have a stereo guitar 😊.

When you start working in the audio world, you are going to mix some songs. Which is great and lead you to buy some plugins, some online courses and learn different techniques to master a mix.
All these aspects are great and make sense.
But sometimes we forget to spend times on the production side.
The arrangements, the key signature, the BPM of the song and everything connected to it.
Having a great production = an easier mix.
It is another step to nail and this is why you need the help of a producer to achieve good results or learn how to do this.

Parallel compression, also known as New York compression, is designed to give your signals more punch, more bottom end and more presence in the mix, without having to turn up the volume of your tracks.
Several solutions and techniques are available to achieve this.
I’d like to share with you the one I use, which is a great help!
Here we’ll be talking about drums.
➡️Step 1: create 2 busses or Auxes and assign all your individual tracks to these two busses.
➡️Step 2: the 1st bus will be the « dry bus » and the second the « Para Drum ».
➡️Step 3: insert a 33609 limiter compressor on the « Para Drum ».
On the 2nd instance, insert an EQ to boost the 60hz and 8khz.
➡️Step 4: set your Para Drum bus to infinity and adjust the fader according to your tastes and expectations
