We are thrilled to welcome Ivan Grbovic to the Solab family!

Ivan Grbovic is a Canadian director, screenwriter, and cinematographer who stands out for his ability to infuse epic imagery with touching humor.

After earning his master’s in cinematography from the American Film Institute, Ivan put his studies to work before focusing on directing. His directorial career picked up steam with several music videos for major artists, including James Blunt and Céline Dion. His first feature, Romeo Eleven (Roméo Onze) was decorated with the prestigious Écumen Prize at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. In the advertising space, Ivan has helmed large-scale campaigns for big-name clients, such as Air Transat, Bank of America, Canal+, Burger King, Danone, Dell, Harely-Davidson, Orange, Ubisoft, and Uniprix. In 2021, Ivan embarked on another feature project, Drunken Birds (Les Oiseaux Ivres), which ended up taking home awards in the Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay categories at the 2022 Quebec Cinema Awards. The film was also selected as the Canadian entry for Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.

Vedran Rupic is a Bosnian-born director based in Gothenburg, Sweden, where he originally arrived as a refugee. After abandoning his ambitions to become a scientist for film, Vedran channeled his creative curiosity into making documentaries.

Longing to exercise his imagination, he began experimenting with short-form narrative films, espousing his now signature absurdist style that takes regular and playful jabs at the fourth wall. His admittedly “premium weird” style is reinforced by his outlandish sense of humor and equally eccentric visual language, both of which have captured audiences around the world. His mastery of comedy makes for unapologetically bold storytelling that is anything but gratuitous. Beyond the laughs, is a point of view deeply rooted in respect and empathy. Verdran’s commercial portfolio includes projects for KFC, Old Spice, and Wagamama. He is also the visionary talent behind many viral music videos for Salvatore Ganacci.

Solab Films is pleased to launch its new identity and website, but these changes are more than superficial. The rebrand comes hand in hand with the establishment of a dedicated Film & Television department, formalizing our ongoing expansion into narrative content.
