Before COVID-19, another pandemic known as the " Spanish flu" occurred in 1918 . This deadly virus infected approximately 500 million people and killed at least 50 million people. The 19th century European paintings depicting the pandemic vividly represent poverty, homelessness. Hunger and despair. The vulnerable artists could no longer show or sell their artworks and most did not survive the unforgiving ravages of the pandemic. The Georgian artist Niko Pirosmani (1862-1918) was born on a large trade route between East and West Caucasus. The orphaned self-taught painter Pirosmani worked as servant of a wealthy family, as a railroad conductor, and later as a laborer in a dairy farmhand in order to survive and pay for his art supplies. Pirosmani earned income by creating shop signboards for bar and local restaurants.

It was not until the 1910s that Pirosmani's work reached a wider audience when the Russian poet Mikhail Le Dantu, discovered Pirosmani's work in a tavern inTbilisi.By 1913, poet and avant-garde advocate Ilya Zdanevich was writing about Pirosmani and promoting his art in Moscow. Despite his lack of recognition Pirosmani is viewed as a key figure in the development
of the Russian avant-garde, particularly the Neo-Primitivist movements. Pirosmani's use of traditionalrural themes can also be seen as influencing the work of Kazimir Malevich and Marc Chagall. Outside of Russia and Georgia, In particular, Pablo Picasso was intrigued by the work of
Pirosmani, appreciating the unique perspective that his rural roots brought to his art. In 1918 Pirosmani at the age of 55 died from malnutrition and liver failure in the cellar of a tavern in Tbilisi.

Armenian Lyrics :
Na Mi Naz Ouni' by Bratsch

| Returning Siberian Crane and The Holy Qur'an
القرآن الكريم In Naeemeh Naeemaei's Dreams Before Extinction | DREAMS BEFORE EXTINCTION Dissolving the artificial boundary between human society and wild nature is the task of “Dreams Before Extinction,” a series of paintings about endangered species by the Iranian artist NAEEMEH NAEEMAEI Through a deeply personal visual narrative that is disturbing for both its intimacy and its boldness, she herself bravely crosses the dividing line between humans and wild nature, to awaken awareness and emotional concern not only for the animals in question, but also for the environment as a whole. Her own vulnerability and personal involvement in this endeavor impel us to experience more deeply the pain and suffering of all life forms that are threatened by our blind obedience to unsustainable models of economic growth and continued disregard for the fate of the environment.“Dreams Before Extinction” provides us with stunning new examples of the ways these issues can be infused with emotional force and broad cultural meaning, even within the context of political cultures and religious beliefs that may be resistant or hostile to environmental activism and cultural change. Her paintings achieve this catharsis by creating an engaging personal narrative that expresses the fear and loneliness she herself feels in the face of the imminent extinction of these animals, an event which in her view augurs ill for the survival of human society itself.(innovateheritage)

Born in Tehran, Iran, in 1984, NAEEMEH NAEEMAEI received her BA in art from Tehran Art University in 2006 where her major was sculpture. The subject of her last series of sculptures at the university was the “Decay of Plants.” Upon completion of these sculptures, she began her first paintings on the same theme. Then she began the series of twelve paintings about endangered species that led to her first solo exhibition “Dreams Before Extinction” at the Henna Gallery in Tehran in December 2011. This show was favorably reviewed in the Tehran journal Art of Tomorrow. She is active in Iran’s environmental movement and involved with several organizations that seek to raise awareness about endangered species and other environmental issues.
