Today the 80th anniversary of the Totalize operation the advance on Falaise road south of Verrieres- Bourguebus ridge- Being busy i couldn t attend the ceremonies but among some walks in St André sur Orne and St Martin de Fontenay i thought and have seen it is a particuliar year this year and i have seen we had visitors from Canada- included pictures Maltot 23rd july 1944’s- Canada memorial near town hall St André sur Orne- Lest we forget all these brave Liberators fallen and those who survived.

Hello, Hurray! the brand new Union jack flag is magnificent overlooking the village of Maltot (as it is done every year). It seems it was quite difficult to purchase one this year? certainly due to plenty ceremonies this year: 80th, Olympic games. Well done and thank you Mairie de Maltot. I enclose a picture of the Hill 112 being viewed from the supermarket of Evrecy (near Royal Welsh fusiliers memorial)- As i informed you, i am moving from near Maltot but i would now stay to Valley of Odon! so i would carry on and strenghten my involvement into WW2 souvenir in Caen area- Have a good week end

CANADIAN CAPBADGES FROM CAEN’s battlefield area. A friend of mine is gathering, for years, WW2 capbadges around Caen. He gave me a picture of 2 differents patterns of the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada regiment capbadge which he has collected. Queen’s own were part of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, 8th Infantry Brigade, they took a role in the seizure of the Canadian bridgehead following D-Day landing. They were also afterwards involved in the attack of Carpiquet and its airfield the 9th July 1944.

CANADA in Normandy, End of July 1944. Pictures: Monument of The South Alberta Regiment in Cormelles le Royal (suburbs of Caen) and picture 28th July 1944 Sherman V “Clanky” of the 29th Reconnaissance Regiment (The South Alberta Regiment) 4th Canadian Armoured Division. Left to right were Tp G Holstrom, Cpl J Lardner and Tp D Mitchell. It joined the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division end of July, and participated the 8th August, in Operation Totalize.

Hello dear readers, N.W of CAEN: here is an aerial picture from the IGN (maps editor), showing the building of the St Manvieu-Norrey Commonwealth cemetery, dated just after the war, i enclosed then and nowadays. We can measure on them; the sacrifice of the Allies soldiers for the Liberation France and the Western Europ, the horrendous loss of life due to the N**i regim. Honor to our liberators. Thank you.

A little video Carpiquet. This was german carpiquet airfield on top, used since 1940. Liberated 1944. During occupation you certainly would have had difficulties to come so near.
