⇥ Sathönay | "𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝘂 𝗷𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻"

Sathönay is a project of Nico Poisson, member of NED, Totale Eclipse and founder of the S.K. records label.

Recently expanded into a quartet, this project is based on oriental music through the use of an electric Saz (Saz is a type of turkish lute, to be short), cello and drums.

From oriental music there is only the flavour, the songs can be more easily filed under vaguely pop psychedelia.

After nearly 10 years of existence, Parquet returns with a new creation: "𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝘁".

With communion and letting go as guiding principles, Parquet will settle in the middle of the audience with an audio-reactive light installation, breaking the stage wall to create a sacred and shared moment.

The repertoire, currently being written, remains focused on trance in the sense of traditional music, social connection, and human experience.

Rzwd: Gaps (2024) - mini-review

Polish band Rzwd are out with the album "Gaps", and this is a production that might be of interest also for fans of progressive rock and metal. Not that the landscapes explored have any connections on a musical level, but there is certainly a progressive and boundary breaking and breeching spirit to these creations. Rhythm elements from dub, and possibly reggae, are recurring features here, with rhythm and musical elements from techno and possibly house music chiming in a little bit too. With a bit of an ongoing industrial undercurrent popping up as a subtle detail or as a more consistent presence. Much depending on the mood. With occasional cosmic sounding effects chiming in on occasion too. The interesting bit is that these tendencies have been mixed and blended with noise rock of different kinds and varieties, from more electronic sounding rock music passages with a chaotic noise element presence through to borderline white noise effects and all the way over to a borderline industrial metal style, mood and mode. It is this combination of musical elements and orientation that is so much on the unusual side of matters that does make this an interesting production, and one that people with a taste and affection for experimental rock music and experimental electronic music may want to investigate a little bit. Not progressive music as such, but experimental music made with a progressive spirit.

Abacaxi: Quetzal (2024) - mini-review

French band Abacaxi are out with the album "Quetzal", and this is a creation that can probably only be classified as experimental music with a liberal avant-garde approach, spirit and ex*****on. The songs here are rather minimalist at the core level, with rhythms and electronic effects as the dominant aspects for major parts of the playtime, but with the electric guitar buzzing in to create gentler and more dramatic surges of dissonant effects that can border white noise. Playful rhythm details and impactful electronic noises combines to create jangly and off kilter rhythm interactions, while the guitar can chime in with more careful instances of noise effects as well as massive and overpowering walls of chaotic, sonic interference. With frequent lapses into a landscape where post-rock and noise rock shake hands for a bit. In between these minimalist to overpowering sonic excursions we do get fragments of styles and orientations that can be pinned down in a specific direction. Most of all reggae, and perhaps to some extent funk too. But the most profound style and orientation can probably be described as avant-garde noise rock. An album to seek out by those with a general curiosity for bands that create novel music in landscapes few others venture into, and who regard noise rock and avant-garde to be expressions regarded as generally interesting.

Cały materiał jest mocno transowy przy czym nie nużący jednostajnością, a to w dużej mierze zasługa niezwykle urozmaiconej elektroniki, która stanowi główne podłoże tego materiału. Różnorodność elektronicznych brzmień to wypadkowa tanecznych jej odmian jak techno, rave i house, wymieszana z ambientowymi pasażami i kontrolowanym noisem.
