I can't change the past but the future. //////

How do I escape the logic of mass production and learn how the economy of subculture works?

When I started my label Psi49Net at the end of the 90s I did not thought about becoming a touring artist.
My goal was just to be a music producer and to be everyday in my studio for the rest of my life.
And this goal was not unrealistic at the time.

Today as a musician or music producer in the subculture you can't make a living without touring.
Yes, there are exceptions, but I mean todays normal state.
I don't talk about money, I talk about a system.
This is about musicians, music producers and label owners.

In the 90s and early 2000s the music label system was in most parts a subcultural system.
A closed circuit with its own rules and economy.
Nowadays this system is fully connected with the commercial system.
And this system applies its rules to the subcultural system.
That can't work or?

I'm not against the commercial system but this system operates and calculates with the logic of mass production.
The subcultural system is mostly a boutique system.
All subcultural music distributions work with the commercial system.
Their logic is to take these commercial earnings into the equation.
It's evident this is not a solution.

We need new subcultural distributions with musicians and label owners that operate without any of the commercial outlets to get back a subcultural economy for music.
And of course we might lose people and visibility then, but that's subculture.

How dare you?
I'm a musician and my music is the most important thing to me.
That's why I became an artist.
My music is not a product for self promotion or a vehicle for getting gigs to make a living.

"It's Promotion!"
That's a common narrative of distributions.
Music has an economic value.
But there is no subcultural structure for it anymore.
So in the meantime the transition could be with the CAMP.
Till new subcultural distributions path new ways.

My words are not an advice.
These are just some thoughts without empirical data.

Once I'd lost it.

At the moment I'm building a crazy modular machine for the production of my new electro album.
And while I'm building and testing this monster and recording many new sounds and beats, some thoughts came to my mind that I would like to share with you.

Looking back after all these years I must say that the most important thing for me as an artist is creativity.
With creativity I mean a kind of spiritual dialog between me, my art and something metaphysical that I can't describe with words.
Creativity gives meaning to my artistic life.
For me, in the whole process of making music everything else comes second of creativity.

The first time that I experienced this deep dive into creativity was with my debut album "$ex With The Machines" and the track "Destroy Him My Robots".
Before this I never experienced something similar and I was fascinated about the shift of reality when making music.

Today my biggest effort is to always enter this kind of mental state.
All my artistic and business decisions are subordinate to this principle of creativity.
Because there was a time when I lost my creativity.

Why did I loose it?
I'll talk about that another time.
But it was then that I understood how important it is for me as an artist and that I will forever take care of it.

I'm aiming for December to release my new production. ♡
