SCHOOL REOPENING 02 APRIL 2024
SUVA AND LAMI SCHOOLS TO RESUME CLASSES
After a few days of school closure due to water disruptions caused by heavy rainfall that damaged the main water pipes, the schools in Suva and Lami reopens tomorrow, 2nd April, 2024.
Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the relevant authorities and NDMO, we are pleased to announce the reopening of all schools in Suva and Lami.
Acting Permanent Secretary Mr Timoci Bure stated, βWeβre reopening schools because water supply in the affected areas have been restored.
WAF is commended for working tirelessly around the clock to repair the broken pipes.
"We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our stakeholders, including our parents, guardians, students, and staff during this challenging period.
Your understanding and support have been invaluable as we worked to resolve the water supply issue and prepare for the safe reopening of schools," added Mr Bure.
As schools resume normal activities, the Ministry assures parents and guardians that we're actively addressing the lost teaching and learning time. We're dedicated to ensuring that students receive the support they need as they return to their usual classroom routines.
The Ministry of Education emphasises that students' safety, hygiene and welfare are our top priority and we ensure that safety measures are in place to safeguard their well-being as they return to school.
To ensure children bring safe drinking water to school, parents and guardians can provide them with water bottles filled with filtered, boiled, or purified water. Additionally, all Heads of Schools (HOS) need to advocate for access to clean drinking water in schools.
We will persist in closely monitoring the situation and offering continuous support to schools and communities as needed.
Wishing everyone a blessed and peaceful Good Friday!
Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
O most holy heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore you, I love you, and with lively sorrow for my sins I offer you this poor heart of mine.
Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to your will. Grant, Good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you.
Protect me in the midst of danger. Comfort me in my afflictions. Give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death.
Amen.

PRESS RELEASE
RESUMPTION OF SCHOOLS ACROSS FIJI FROM MONDAY, 25 MARCH
The Permanent Secretary for Education, Ms. Kuruleca, upon consultation with the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) is pleased to announce that all schools across Fiji will reopen and resume for classes from tomorrow, Monday, 25 March.
βThe decision to reopen our school after such a calamity was not an easy one. The damage inflicted by the floodwaters to the main infrastructure around the country like roads, bridges and crossings was extensive, impacting our teachers, students, parents and classrooms. However, this adversity did not dampen our spirits and our commitment to education and growth continue,β said Ms. Kuruleca.
PS Education acknowledges the resilience and perseverance of all teachers, students and parents during the recent school closure.
βAs we reopen our doors tomorrow, we do so with a renewed sense of purpose and unity. Your unwavering dedication and commitment to our students have been a beacon of hope in our darkest hour. It is through your efforts that we are able to stand here today, ready to embark on a new chapter in our educational journey.β
Subsequently, all School Management, Heads of Schools and teachers are further reminded to ensure that their respective schools are clean and in operational condition as students return for classes.
Parents and guardians are urged to make all the necessary arrangements for their children to return to school.
βI remind all Heads of Schools and Teachers to adhere to the guidelines in Circular 43/24 that was sent out on 21 March 2024, which outlines strategies that can be adopted and implemented in schools to compensate for the lost teaching and learning time, due to the recent adverse weather conditions which led to school closure in the past few days,β said the Permanent Secretary.
In reopening the schools around Fiji tomorrow, Ms. Kuruleca advises all parents and students that βwe are not out of the woods yetβ as the cyclone season ends next month and we should be alert at all times and should not be complacent.
