Aura Music Studios is a small production studio in Turku.

With our qualified audio engineer Tom Fensome we work closely with you on your music. Whether it be online mixing or mastering, or music production we provide professional results.

Tom completed a BSc in audio engineering and production in 2017, but has been working in and around music for the last 10 years. Having also formally studied music performance and theory along with jazz/contemporary music composition.

Starting the new year the right way!

Straight to work on the first day open of the new year. Prepping a mix for Koreyography 's new track. Working in Logic to prep stems ready for Pro Tools mixing.

Why have I linked to our Antelope Audio interface to do this you might ask? This is because I am recording select instrument/vocal stems via the afx vintage emulations, in order to add extra warmth and colour.

Can't wait for everyone to hear the outcome ✌️

How is everyone doing today?

We thought the lighting was cool so took a photo, what do you think?

We have also been fairly busy getting the room a bit more treated and got panels mounted on the wall. Still got the corners left, however the room sounds much better.

Along with this we have finalised a few mixing projects which will be announced and shared soon 😉👍

Softube Console 1 has definitely helped our workflow. Having got used to analogue gear when studying at uni, Tom Fensome appreciates the tactile workflow in the digital world.

We've been working on a nice bit of composition. Thought we would try our hands at using a kantele (Finnish harp).

It has an incredibly haunting sound.

Using the Antelope Audio verge microphone allowed us to try different microphone emulations and see how the different microphones affected the sound of the instrument. We finally settled on the 'Berlin 184' which is their Neumann KM184 emulation

Moving the panels into the room unwrapped but roughly where they will be mounted on the wall has already improved the sound of the room. Now just to get the fabric and wrap them!

After they are up we will be taking another sine sweep and pink noise recording to compare the sounds, but also to see what else can be done for the sound. Diffusers are planned to be made, but once we have taken another reading.

Taking a quick sine sweep (linear and logarithmic) and pink noise recording of the room before getting the panels up.

This is mostly just to check the frequencies before and after the panels get put up... But why not also use them as an impulse response for some reverbs too?

For this we have used 2 Antelope Audio Verge emulation microphones into an SSL 2 interface.

The acoustic panels we have been making for the studio for a bit of extra treatment are almost complete!

They now just need wrapping in a fabric and then mounting on the walls!

We had a short break from the socials while we worked on improving the studio, and while Tom worked on releasing his new single.

We are back at mixing and mastering. Here we have a bit of mixing under way, loving the chilled out lo-fi vibes.

What is everyone's go to vocal mic?

For our current project ours is the CK-6 condenser mic. This mic seems to compliment the singer's voice and provide a smooth vocal performance.

Got a little something new in the studio by Behringer

The SX3040 Sonic Exciter is an Aphex Aural Exciter clone with added low end processing. Great for the likes of drum buss processing.

What are we recording in the studio today?.... well that would be some shaker

The Soup Can Mic works well for shaker and similar percussion when it comes to getting a nice gritty sound. Some might say it's 'souper'
