Charlotte Brontë rocketed to immediate fame with Jane Eyre in the middle of 19th century, and with time cemented her status as a classic author.

What makes Jane Eyre so compelling is the psychological depth resulting from the focus on the internal world and development of the main character. That this approach was so successful likely has a lot to do with the fact that the novel is highly autobiographical.

To make better sense of the book it helps to understand the events and situations experienced by Brontë in her life. To this end we provide an account of her life, including several biographical excerpts written by her friends after her death in 1855.

F. Scott Fitzgerald is a name associated with the Jazz Age of the 1920s. This is by no accident as he coined the term Jazz Age with his short story collection Tales of the Jazz Age published in 1922.

In the author section for The Great Gatsby we present the reader the main events and developments of his life accompanied by beautiful visual content. As the centrepiece of the section is his own essay Echoes of the Jazz Age, written in 1931 to analyze the era of excess that had just ended with the Great Depression.
