Timo - Artist Friday

Sadly, our Artist Fridays has come to an end. We introduce you one more artist, the one and only, master of 3D- TIMO HÄMÄLÄINEN! Hey Timo, what do you do? I work as a 3D artist and designer here in Piñata. So modeling/sculpting, texturing/shading, lighting, rendering and creating visual styles is what I do. I've been working here since 2009. When did you start? As a kid, I loved to draw all kinds of stuff. (Mostly turtles action figures, OF COURSE) and characters from NES games. When I got older, I got really into street art and graffiti. I really liked artist like CanTwo and Daim. Actually, Daim's style is the main reason I opened 3D software in the first place and that was around 2003. Favourite artists and sources of inspiration? There are so many artists I could name, but I’ve been inspired by so many that’s it’s hard to select one or two specific artists but for an example: NYCHOS, Greg "Craola" Simkins, Junko Mizuno, Dug Stanat, D*Face.. Who do you admire? The people who inspire me the most are those who are down to earth. They do more than talk; their heart is in everything that they do. What is your favourite subject matter to sculpt? Characters for sure. I really like to start something from scratch, go with the flow and start to improvise something out. What tips would you give to beginner artists? Keep practicing and try to find your own style. Add a personal touch to your work. Once you know the basics and rules - start to break them!
