Storm Éowyn batters Ireland and UK late today and on Friday. There are hurricane force winds over the sea west of Ireland and Scotland, and dangerous gusts reach even inland. The storm will weaken as it approaches Norway.
Wintry weekend in Europe
The snowy weather continues in parts of Europe through the weekend. Snow accumulation between Friday and Sunday from Estonia to Poland is 5–30 cm, locally even 30–50 cm. Similar amounts of snow can also come in some of the mountainous areas in SE Europe, Italy and Switzerland.
Snowy and windy weather in parts of Europe
A low pressure system brings windy weather to the central Mediterranean as the holiday season approaches. There is also some snowfall, especially in mountains in the southeastern Europe, Italy and the Alps. However, far in the north there will be quite mild winter weather.
Cold December week in Europe
The rather cold weather continues in Europe. More snowfall is expected as far south as around the Black Sea, also locally on mountainous areas around the Mediterranean.
Heavy rain in Spain
A new intense rainfall event has started in Spain. Especially the southern and eastern parts of the country will locally face heavy rain and flooding for the next couple of days.
A cut-off low that's been causing devastating flooding in parts of Spain will keep producing rain and showers also in the coming days.
Typhoon Kong-Rey is approaching Taiwan and will make landfall on Thursday. Just prior to landfall its strength is forecast to be the equivalent of a cat. 4 hurricane. After Taiwan Kong-Rey will brush the coast of China, then continue on towards Japan.

Typhoon Krathon
Typhoon Krathon is weakening a bit as it approaches Taiwan, where it will make landfall on Thursday morning. Krathon moves slowly over the island and brings extremely heavy rainfall. Floods and even landslides are possible.
Hurricanes in USA
The last few days of September has three different hurricanes moving in the Atlantic and the eastern Pacific.
Helene is expected to intensify to a cat 3 or 4 hurricane before landfall with a highly dangerous storm surge in Florida.
Hurricane John with its torrential rain will make a second landfall in the southwestern coast of Mexico.
Isaac will also intensify into a hurricane, but it stays over the sea.
A cut-off low is developing over Europe in the coming days. Heavy rainfall is expected in the parts of Central Europe, with locally over 250 mm possible during the end of the week. Severe flooding is to be expected, if these forecasts verify. ⚠️
