Just In: President TInubu approves the sale of crude oil to Dangote, other refineries in Naira

President Bola Tinubu has approved a new directive to promote the trade of crude oil using the local currency.

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Chairman, Zacchaeus Adedeji, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Monday after the federal executive council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.
According to him, effective immediately, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited will engage with local refineries in transactions dominated in Naira.

He said this move was also extended to the sale of crude oil to Dangote Refinery, with the subsequent sale of Dangote’s products to others also to be conducted in Naira. He said the decision aimed to mitigate the heavy reliance on foreign exchange for crude oil imports, which currently accounts for roughly 30 to 40 per cent of Nigeria’s forex expenditure.

The FIRS boss further explained that by denominating transactions in Naira, the federal government expected to significantly reduce the forex burden, estimating annual savings of around $7.3 billion.

President Bola Tinubu has signed the minimum wage bill into law, ending months of deliberations between government authorities, labour unions, and the private sector.

He signed it at the State House in Abuja on Monday days after the National Assembly had passed the bill.

A National Assembly delegation led by the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio and some members of the House of Representatives were around to witness the ground-breaking event.

Nigerian Senator and oil mogul, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, has reportedly passed away.

Ubah, who joined the All Progressives Congress, APC, a few months ago, was billed to seek the party’s ticket ahead of the Anambra State governorship election.

SaharaReporters reports that he di£d in a hotel in London, the United Kingdom just two days after he arrived the country.

His d£ was also confirmed on a group chat of senators who had started to pour in tributes, the report added.

Intelligence shows foreign mercenaries are involved in planned nationwide protest — IGP Egbetokun

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has said that the police have “credible intelligence” that foreign mercenaries are involved in the planned nationwide protest.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, on Friday, July 26, Egbetokun said: “We have been monitoring development surrounding protest thr£. While some groups call for vi%lent protests, emulating Kenya’s recent events, others advocate for peaceful demonstrations.

However, some individuals promote peaceful protests with vi%lent undertones, raising concerns about their sincerity. We have our history of vi%lent protests in Nigeria, and I don’t believe we have to look to other countries to note the d@ngers of unchecked demonstrations.

We commend patriots who have withdrawn from the protest due to the apparent sinister motives and ignorance of those calling for vi%lence.

We note those who have spoken out against any form of protest at this critical juncture, fearing enemies of our country may be manipulating the process. We confirm their fears are genuine, as we have credible intelligence on foreign mercenaries’ involvement in this planned protest.

The Nigeria Police urge Nigerians to exercise caution and think twice before joining any protest group while we alert citizens to the sinister motive of certain groups planning to wreak havoc.

It has become clear that even a peaceful protest at this time may be ill-timed.

We issue a strong warning to clandestine groups planning to destabilise the country and hoodlums seeking to exploit the protest for their criminal agenda.

Many reportedly trapp£d as four-storey building collapses in Abuja

Many people were reportedly trapped when a four-storey building attached to the Westbrook hotel in the Garki area of the Federal Capital Territory collapsed on Monday night.

The Westbrook Hotel is said to be owned by a former governor of a state in the South East.

An eyewitness told newsmen that “There is a possibility that there could be some people inside the collapsed building who may have died. I saw two people being pulled out from the rubble now and taken to the hospital while rescue operations were ongoing. The emergency responders are not coordinated yet for efficient operations,” he said.
