Farafenni base club, Raba FC has embarked on a significant restructuring of its leadership

In a bold and strategic move that reflects both the euphoria of recent success and a forward-thinking vision, Raba Football Club has embarked on a significant restructuring of its leadership and technical team. The club's triumphant journey, culminating in its first title at the Farafenni Football Association senior tournament, has galvanized the organization, prompting these pivotal changes to bolster its competitive edge as it gears up for the challenging NBRFA third-division qualifiers.

At the helm of this transformation, Hajie Salem ascends from his role as president to that of Chief Executive Officer, a title that empowers him to steer the club's strategic direction with a renewed focus on growth and sustainability. His experience and leadership will now consolidate the club's vision and operational framework, setting the stage for future successes both on and off the pitch.

In a noteworthy transition, Babucarr Ndow steps into the role of president. Previously serving as Salem's assistant, Babucarr brings an intimate understanding of the club’s dynamics and a vision for fostering a culture of excellence. His appointment signals a commitment to enhancing club morale and community engagement, as he seeks to inspire both players and supporters alike.

The technical side of the organization has equally seen transformative changes. Ebrima Ceesay, once the head coach who skillfully led the team to triumph, shifts to the vice president position. This move not only acknowledges his contributions but also allows him to leverage his coaching insights in a broader administrative capacity, closely aligning the club’s strategic goals with its athletic ambitions.

Malang Lessy has been entrusted with the role of Sporting Director, a pivotal position that will see him oversee player acquisitions, development strategies, and the overall sporting philosophy of Raba FC. His expertise will be crucial as the club seeks to enhance its playing squad and elevate its competitive status.

Momodou Alieu Jallow, who played an integral role as the Assistant Coach during the recent finals, is now stepping up as the Team Manager. This new position will enable him to play a vital role in bridging the gap between the coaching staff and players, ensuring a cohesive team environment that fosters growth and development.

Further enriching this restructured leadership team, Essa Lowe joins the club as the Communication Director. With a focus on improving external and internal communications, Essa's appointment promises to enhance the club's visibility and engagement with fans, stakeholders, and the broader community, uniting them in the shared passion for Raba FC.

Lastly, the club will continue to benefit from the leadership of Momodou Kosareh Jallow, who, as head coach, will maintain his pivotal role in guiding the technical staff and players. His instrumental guidance was vital in securing the team’s first-ever trophy, and his continuity assures that the foundation built during this remarkable run is not only preserved but also expanded upon.

This comprehensive realignment of Raba Football Club's executive and technical ranks is not merely a reaction to past triumphs but a calculated initiative aimed at bolstering the club's future endeavors. As the club sets its sights on the upcoming NBRFA third-division qualifiers, the refreshed leadership structure is primed to capitalize on their recent success, striving for nothing less than excellence in every match they face. With a renewed sense of purpose and a robust leadership framework, Raba Football Club is truly on the cusp of an exciting new chapter in its storied journey.

US President-elect Donald Trump will be sentenced on January 10, in his hush money case, just days before returning to the White House.

Convicted in May 2024 of falsifying business records over payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during his 2016 campaign, Trump is expected to receive a conditional discharge without jail time.

Judge Juan M. Merchan dismissed Trump’s immunity claims and efforts to overturn the conviction in a ruling issued on January 3. Trump becomes the first president-elect convicted of a felony.

In 2024, at least 46,843 migrants reached Spain’s Canary Islands via the perilous Atlantic migration route, according to the interior ministry.

This is part of a total of 63,970 irregular arrivals in Spain last year, a rise from 56,852 in 2023.

In 2024, more than 400 Gambians have died in the Mediterranean while attempting to reach Europe.

Many migrants hail from Mali, Senegal, and Morocco, driven by conflicts in the Sahel, unemployment, and climate change impacts on agriculture.

The Atlantic route, known as the world's deadliest, saw a recent tragedy where at least 69 people, including 25 Malians, drowned after their boat capsized off Morocco.

Migrant aid group Walking Borders attributed the increase in deaths to the use of unsafe boats, treacherous waters, and inadequate rescue resources and criticized European governments for prioritizing immigration control over saving lives.

Senegal has seen a record increase in economic growth after launching its first oil project and exports in mid-2024. This growth was fueled by the start-up of the Sangomar offshore oil field in June. Six months ago, Australia-based Woodside achieved first oil at the project, which is the country’s first offshore oil project. Senegal's economy is set to receive another boost in early 2025 when the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) from a major gas and LNG project operated by BP is expected to take place. What structures need to be put in place to avoid Senegal's oil from being a curse like it is in some countries?

Breaking News: Bushfire Breaks Out in Chamen, Near Farafenni, Threatening Farms and GSI

A massive bushfire has erupted in Chamen, a village in the North Bank Region (NBR), located about 8-10 km from Farafenni. The fire, which started around 10:00 AM today, has rapidly spread, threatening several farms in the area.

One of the affected farms is managed by Jumma Bah, who spoke to The Fatu Network and confirmed that his herd of cows is in distress, refusing to eat due to the smoke and stress from the approaching flames.

Mbye Saine, Project Coordinator at the Gambia Songhai Initiative (GSI), also spoke to The Fatu Network, explaining that the fire is a recurring issue in the area. While GSI's Chamen training center in NBR is not currently under threat, Saine reassured that the situation remains contained thanks to the swift response from the Farafenni fire service and the efforts of GSI students.

As the fire continues to spread, local authorities are working to control the situation, and residents are being urged to remain alert.
