Kenya is a country in East Africa and shares it borders with Ethiopia to the North, Somalia to the East, Tanzania to the South, Uganda to the West, South Sudan to the North-East, and the Indian Ocean sweeping the country’s coastlines to the South-East.
Together with Tanzania and Uganda, Kenya shares Lake Victoria, the World's largest tropical lake and largest lake in the African Great Lakes region, on its South-Western Border Line.
Kenya’s Capital and the largest city is Nairobi. The coastal city of Mombasa is the oldest and currently second largest, followed by Kisumu as the third largest and an inland port on Lake Victoria.
With a total Area of 580,367 square kilometers, Kenya is the world's 48th largest country by area, and with a population of more than 47.6 million according to the 2019 census.
Kenya’s geography, climate and population vary widely, ranging from cold snow-capped mountaintops of Mount Kenya with vast surrounding forests, wildlife, and fertile agricultural regions, to temperate climates in western and rift valley counties and dry less fertile arid and semi-arid areas, and absolute deserts like the Chalbi Desert on the North.
Kenya lies astride the equator, and the country’s highest point is Batian, the highest peak on Mount Kenya (5199m), about 10 miles south of the equator line and 90 miles northeast of Nairobi.
Mount Kenya (5199m), set within the Mount Kenya National Park is the second tallest Mountain in Africa, second only to Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro (5895) – just about 695m higher than Mount Kenya.
Kenya is a multilingual country, English and Swahili being the official languages, Swahili the national language and more than 40 indigenous languages, which makes it possible for almost every Kenyan to be able to speak more than 3 languages fluently: English, Swahili and their tribe’s language.
The main religion in Kenya is Christianity, with more than 85% of the population, followed by 10% of muslim and then the rest.
