• I consider the 1970 Brands Hatch 1000 Km race to be one of the two best races of the exceptional Mexican driver Pedro Rodriguez de la Vega driving his Porsche 917. The second best race was the 1971 Zeltweg 1000 km. (Which I will present to you in a future post)
• At Brands Hatch, masterful driving by the master of the rain, Pedro Rodriguez in one of his best performances, with his Porsche 917K from John Wyer’s JW Automotive Engineering team.
In the team’s box it was commented that “they had forgotten to warn him that it was raining.” The Mexican’s pace was from another galaxy, David Yorke, team director, knew that what was happening was something special. It is not every day that you see a performance like that with such a complicated track.
• The #10 Guf-Porsche 917K deservedly took the top spot on the podium. Pedro Rodriguez, thanks to his first stint and Kinnunen’s good driving, took one of his best and most memorable victories.

• With the volume turned up to full, you’ll hear the impressive roar of the Porsche 917’s flat-12 engine.
• It is one of the most emblematic pieces in the Porsche Museum due to the number of victories achieved by the Mexican driver Pedro Rodríguez.
The driver who best understood the 917 was Pedro Rodríguez, who together with Jackie Oliver won the 1,000 kilometres of Spa in 1971.
• The legendary car was restored to its original 1971 condition at Porsche Motorsport North America. Here it is seen at the Porsche Rennsport Reunion V, the world’s largest event for historic Porsche racing models, held annually in Laguna Seca, California. This race car also competed successfully at 6 Hours of Watkins Glen (United States), before being stored at the museum in Zuffenhausen. In 2009 the car was painted in the famous Gulf colours for display at the museum.
