Every year, SNDS organizes a three day seminar with international speakers on subjects related to news design and visual journalism. The Scandinavian countries take turns in hosting the event which every year has a theme – in 2014 it will be in Copenhagen, Denmark. The theme and the title is: "Fusion". SNDS also organizes an annual competition for news design – "Best of Scandinavian News Design" – which attracts print and online publishing companies to enter. Typically, about 75 winners will take home gold, silver, bronze or excellence awards, when the winners are announced at a gala evening ceremony at the annual seminar.
The competition is held in cooperation with the four Scandinavian publishing organizations – TidningsUtgivarna (Sweden), Danske Dagblades Forening (Denmark), Sanomalehtien Liito (Finland) and Mediebedriftenes Landsforening (Norway).
