Dear Friends & Followers--
Most of you know that Fox & Falcon Press is run by a writer/artist who also loves to design things. That can mean long breaks between new products while brilliant things are being written and made.
But summer has brought waves of inspiration, and new journals are on the way--including hardbound versions of already popular paperback journals and a lot of cool new vintage images and patterns in paperback.
AND-- we've added both dot matrix and grid interiors for bullet journals as well as technically-minded line makers.
Here's a taste of the new covers! They're not up on the website yet, but let us know if you'd like a purchase link!

Make a credo for your writing life.
What's the highest writing achievement you aspire to?
How does that mesh with your life goals?
Have you ever made a dream collage or personal vision board that included your creative aspirations?
If you made one and it's been a few years, how much has been realized?
If you've never made one, break out the scissors and glue! Dream big! Emphasize your talents and strong points.

Sitting is the new smoking.
It's not a new slogan, but it's good to be reminded. Daily!
As a child were you rewarded for sitting still and staying "out of trouble"?
In school did you have to stay put at a desk or table?
Or were you lucky enough to have your kid energy encouraged?
Whether it's a standing desk or walking and dictating your ideas, find some ways to incorporate movement into your working day.

Today's tip is kind of a prompt -- Mine your personal history (or someone else's) for an obscure incident. Or pick a famous historical event. Bonus points if it's something quirky!
Then, to protect the innocent (or guilty!), change any and all details: the names & gender of character/participants, the location in time and space, the outcome.

This is a time-honored technique. It's how we get parodies and re-makes, for example, but you don't have to be obvious about the origin story.
Find out how much change it takes to make the familiar unrecognizable.

For poets-- Pick a poem you admire and then start substituting your own words, following the rhythms, line breaks, and rhyme scheme of the original. It's a big challenge, but can really help you find new patterns!

What to do with all of last year's writing ideas....???
1. Walk away from the wreckage
2. Push up sleeves and get them written this week
3. Take a breather to see which ones stick with you
Correct answer? Whichever one inspires you to keep writing 😁🖋🖋🖋

I've seen lots of crazy headlines and this one wasn't the first time I thought that real-life weirdness might be the perfect place to go for an action or twist in fiction.
Maybe it's the wrong thing to admit, but I'm pretty sure that absolutely anything in the real world makes a good writing prompt if you look at it that way. Really! Any object or event comes loaded with possible questions that can be asked about it or imaginative ways of accounting for its presence or destiny.
Like for example, if a deer crashes into a restaurant (through the door? the window? the kitchen?) during the lunch rush--whose POV do you see that through? Does it make their bad day worse or (weirder) their good day better? How do they describe it to someone who wasn't there?
See what I mean? You just keep going with the questions and something's going to get you intrigued enough to keep writing.
Give it a try! 🤓😎🖋🖋🖋
