When instinct takes over 🏹🐦‍⬛🫡

Every now and then, on our way back from an expedition, our colleagues from Surama may ask if they can bring home a piece of meat. If our guests are okay with it, it’s allowed, but only if it’s hunted with traditional bow and arrow. After all, this is their forest, and witnessing this process can be a rare and unforgettable experience.

It’s fascinating to see the transformation when prey is spotted. Their posture shifts, eyes sharpen, and they move swiftly and silently through the jungle. Vision, hearing, and intuition combine into one fluid motion. It’s primal. Purposeful. A reminder of what humans are built for, survival at all costs 💪

In Guyana, bow and arrow remains a preferred and respected method. We’re proud that our colleagues are masters of this ancient craft. Let’s ensure there’s still space for these traditions in the future 🫶🇬🇾

Never a dull moment with our crew in Surama! 😂

Another adrenaline-filled encounter with father Lionel and son Adam at B***o B***o River near during one of our jungle survival courses 😜

Using the bow to secure a fish is a common tactic. It becomes especially important when the fish is large enough to risk bursting the line or breaking the hook. This often happens as the fish is lifted from the water to the boat. Shooting it with an arrow helps ensure the fish is stunned or dead before landing it. You can see Lionel carefully resisting and restraining the fish’s movement while Adam lines up the shot.

Teamwork and skill in perfect harmony. We’re proud to work alongside these legends 🫡

Our 2026 jungle survival course dates:
• 25 May to 6 June
• 7 September to 19 September

We can’t wait for our next Wai Wai expedition! 🇬🇾

This journey unfolds in several phases, travelling exactly the way community members do, by road, trucks, dugout canoes, overnighting in jungle camps, fishing, spotting wildlife, and working as a team to reach Masakanari village in the heart of the Kanashen Protected Area 🙌

If you’ve ever dreamed of reaching the edge of the known world and taking part in a real expedition to one of South America’s most remote corners, while directly supporting a small community in building one of the region’s most inspiring adventure tourism experiences, this is it 💪

Join us from 26th October to 15th November, 2026 for this epic 20-day overland expedition into the wild.

Buckle up. This is going to be an adventure wilder than you ever imagined 😉

The technique of opening larger fish from the back is a simple but effective way to clean and prepare them for roasting 🥘
By doing this, you get two sides or manageable portions that are easier to handle over an open fire.

It’s all about keeping things practical and efficient when cooking in the jungle, especially when you need to preserve and carry food to the next camp or back home to the village 🙂

All the best for the New Year! 🥳
A heartfelt thanks to all our amazing colleagues who make every expedition and jungle survival course possible 🙂
To our guests who trust us with their vacations and believe us when we say Guyana is one of the greatest destinations to visit 🙌

And of course, to Guyana for consistently delivering some of the most epic and unforgettable experiences anyone could hope for 🫶🇬🇾

Cheers to a 2026 filled with adventure, prosperity and more of everything you love and care for 🙏

This is one of the most untouched pieces of wilderness left on the planet in 2026 🙂🫶
It might not seem like much, but Guyana has it and this could be you, sitting here, forgetting the world is burning and realising you probably can’t do much more than trust that somehow we will get by just like we have through every other chaotic year 🙏

A joyful moment of 2025 was having this experience with 🙏
Our youngest instructor Jesse had spotted this smaller specimen by our landing and Joe, in a lightning quick reaction, grabbed it from the B***o B***o River and brought it up for the full team of jungle survival participants to see.

I had to stumble out of the hammock half asleep, not fully understanding what was going on until I was basically handed a snake 😂
It was safely released shortly after, but these unique and surprising wildlife encounters are some of our favourite moments during the jungle survival course.

We are not there specifically for the wildlife. We just happen to be training in a truly intact and pristine part of the rainforest where animals still thrive and roam freely 😂

How do we camp in the jungle? 🏕️

We use hammocks, tarps and dry bags. This setup offers maximum comfort and provides a dry, secure space even in the wettest conditions ☔️

We have specialised in providing most of the equipment you’ll need. You are welcome to bring your own to test, but in most cases our gear is perfectly suited for any expedition or jungle survival course.

This little snippet is from our full-length YouTube documentary about our jungle survival course. You can find the video in comments below and join us and our guest on a journey to the B***o B***o River in North Rupununi 🇬🇾

The video was made possible with the support of and filmed by the excellent videographer and editor 🙏

Season’s greetings from The Wild Tales 🎄

May this time be filled with as much peace and serenity as drifting down the B***o B***o River in the early morning light 🌅🇬🇾
We hope everyone enjoys the season surrounded by those they care for the most 🙏

Every day is fishing day. It is just not every day you catch a fish 😉

This is a local saying, but what it really speaks to is that in order to catch a fish, you have to try.
We are so fortunate to spend so much time with our amazing colleagues from the many communities. Their philosophical reflections in the rainforest often speak volumes about the perspective that comes from living so closely with nature.

In many ways, these lessons are perfectly applicable to life everywhere.
You have to try in order to succeed. The chance of failure never truly disappears, but that is irrelevant. It only has to work one time for everything to change.

In the end, that might be the biggest difference between those who make it and those who do not.

Keep trying. That one success is out there and might be closer than you think 😜
