The American Music Magazine TEXTURA have a great review on Aros Guitar Duo Duo's debut album IN TIME. Congratulations to Simon Wildau and Mikkel Egelund Nielsen.
"The idea of using Børup's theme as the connecting thread was obviously an inspired move on the guitarists' part. Its recurring presence in the compositions ensures that the recording, no matter how much one setting differs from the next, exhibits a satisfying and subtle unity. To that end, Wildau and Egelund are correct in asserting that In Time should be regarded as a single, six-movement suite rather than a collection of six related yet distinct pieces. The project has been realized so excellently, one wonders what the duo will do for a follow-up"

OUR Recordings - where I am a co-owner, and Lars Hannibal gets all the ideas and is in charge of everything - has just sent out a new catalogue. Seeing this, I get still more impressed by Hannibals ability to choose projects which are meaningful and in line with the world today. 65 albums in 16 years - all made with lots of dedication and having made their way into the international music life. Grateful to be part of this and to have the possibility to spread good music and intentions.

"There's control in the madness when rock stands side by side with J. S. Bach

At first thought: Wow, how crazy? And new, refreshing, and psychedelic? To arrange old, worn-out rock hits for a venerable and dignified church organ.
And this immediate reaction can, to some extent, be maintained even after studying the booklet. It reveals that the selected rock hits objectively have references to J. S. Bach's chord universe. That many musicians in the 1960s and 1970s were directly inspired by J. S. Bach's music. Thus, there is even a factual basis for embarking on this atypical recording. So, there you have it - or at least, you will with this album.
Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen also shares a very fine background knowledge in the booklet; yet another argument for the joy of having music on a genuine CD, which you can hold in your hands and read about in the booklet. Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen is a professor of organ and church music at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and thus has great knowledge of what lies behind the music. But besides that, he is also known for breaking out of traditional forms with his instrument. That he collaborates with many different musicians and loves to explore new musical territory with his organ. For years, Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen has been playing what he calls good music - regardless of genre, origin, and style, and this has included collaborations with violinist Jochen Brusch.
But now, it's evergreens from The Doors, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd that become part of Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen's latest solo research project, aiming to demonstrate and reveal the synergy between early rock and baroque. And we are ready at the speaker.
It's actually going quite well. In a delightful alternation, we get rhythmic rock and wonderful Bach baroque in one grand, melodious, inspiring, and beautifully varied context. There's also room for humorous reflection, a couple of funny improvisational twists, and exercising the stiffened smile. Because the joy of recognition comes as a revelation and surprise - to hear the old hits emerge in a more fragile and solemn version, which suits the original. And it's always wonderful to have a couple of J. S. Bach's noble organ pieces along the way. Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen plays with a lovely calm throughout the album, providing a harmonious form of equality between all tracks.
It starts really well with the first hit on the CD, which is "Light my fire" by The Doors. If you listen closely, there are sequences from J. S. Bach's "Brandenburg Concert no. 2", which Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen has fittingly incorporated into the introduction and into the solo in the middle of the piece. And it works fine - it's actually a pleasure to hear the old clattering acid song in a brighter and classical version, where the melody lies beautifully and simply in a high pitch range in contrast to Jim Morrison's monotonous, dry, and slightly introverted vocal delivery. Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen also navigates through the slightly crazy electric organ solo quite well, so one must smile at the successful interaction between rock and church organ.
About "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin, Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen writes that the song's classical-sounding introduction makes it easy to translate to the organ. It sounds quite effortless when he, with his arrangement, gives the song a deeper and more penetrating earnestness at the organ. One could also say that it just sounds incredibly cool on the organ - even with the more rhythmic passages towards the end. It's actually a beautiful melody - which might have slightly constrained conditions in a psychedelic 1970s universe with a lead singer shirtless. It's as if the melody finds better space at the organ. Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen also finds associations with J. S. Bach's "Orchestral Suite no. 2". There you go, Led Zeppelin - you're exposed. Bach came first!
That Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen chooses to continue with a simple movement by J. S. Bach in the form of "Bourée" in an arrangement by Jethro Tull, is very well-placed.
It's interesting to see how the organ professor succeeds in linking some core expressions from entirely different genres - finding some moods and structures that recur and somehow hit upon something common in each music genre. At the same time, one also gets a good impression of what an organ can do; that it's like a whole orchestra and that with its rich sound and many registration options, it can move smoothly even in the rhythmic genre - without compromising on its own value.
We warmly welcome this humorous, melodious, innovative, and downright enlightening release into the collection".

Congratulations to Janne Fredens and Søren Rastogi with a brillant review in the UK mangazine Music Web International:
"I am hugely impressed with the husband and wife team of cellist Janne Fredens and pianist Søren Rastogi who bring the music to fizzing, fiery life. They bring balance, temperament, engagement, supreme virtuosity and passion by the bucket load and the disc will easily feature in my recordings of the year. An absolute corker of a recital". A completely fantastic 6-star review in Kulturen.nu of Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen album "STAIRWAY TO BACH - rock classics with a hint of Bach". THANK YOU Evanthore Vestergaard for this unconditional review. The album will be released on OUR Recordings worldwide on Friday, May 3rd, but on May 2nd, Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen will perform the entire program at a Danish release concert on the organ in the wonderful concert hall at The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. Click the image to read the whole review in Danish, and below is an AI Translation.

Cd - Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen: "Stairway to Bach - rock classics with a hint of Bach"
In 1974, I wrote a review with the headline "Bach subjected to a washboard?". The point was that there were no limits to what the old Baroque music could be subjected to, but also that the music can withstand it. I still believe this after an even longer life with Bach, whom I consider the greatest composer in history, no matter how you measure it. Bach lived 1685-1750. My yardstick is that Bach's music has a spiritual/mental/religious content, the depth of which is unmatched by others, and which I otherwise find difficult to explain further. But it gives the music a sustainability, expansiveness, universality, and almost immortality that I otherwise do not acknowledge for art. You can hardly ruin Bach, because there is an enormous amount of jazz, rock, and other elements in his music. The organist Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen, who after positions at, among others, Frederiksborg Palace Church and Løgumkloster Church, two prestigious positions, is now a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, has released an album CD titled "Stairway to Bach". Here he plays music by The Doors, Savage Rose, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Procol Harum, and others, that is, big rock names that in one way or another are "indebted" to Bach. They have all played or been inspired by him, but Bach remains the one - Amen! It's a spectacular task Mikkelsen embarks on when he returns rock to Bach's main instrument, the classical organ. What happens then? Something wonderful, beautiful, almost divine, is the short answer. You have to know both Bach and the great rock groups to truly appreciate how respectfully Mikkelsen approaches the matter. He never falls into one ditch or the other; the balance between the classical and the rhythmic is fine. Yet it's as if he points out the elements in the old music that made the rock folks adopt Bach back in 1967-75, from which the songs are drawn. A rather short span in Bach's 340-year lifespan so far, but enough to see differences and similarities. Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen has arranged it himself, and interpretations become monumental in his hands and gain new life in their own right. Mikkelsen plays on one of Denmark's best organs created by Marcussen & Søn in 1946 in Denmark's best and most beautiful concert hall, Radiohuset on Rosenørns Allé, which is now home to the Royal Danish Academy of Music. It couldn't be a better choice - for Bach, his rock friends, and the enthusiastic Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen. The CD could easily become an international hit.
PS: The reviewer was an organist substitute in several churches in North Jutland from 1968-1978 and always improvised over the popular Beatles hits of the time. It was well received by the congregation... Evanthore Vestergaard April 10 2024

Cd - Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen: "Stairway to Bach - rockclassics with a hint of Bach" I 1974 skrev jeg en anmeldelse med overskriften "Bach udsat for vaskebræt?". Pointen var, at der ikke var grænser for, hvad den gamle barokkers musik bliver udsat for, men også, at musikken kan tåle det. Det mener...
