Recently, I happened to visit one of my friends who´s running a recording studio here in Copenhagen and realized that while the endless discussion "analog vs digital" is mainly over, but – surprisingly – still pops up frequently in our "audio community"... "In The Box" or "All Analog" or even "Hybrid" seems to be a big, big topic 😏

Personally, I´m not religious about these things: just pick the best possible tool for the job. For example while tracking: I think that there´s something magical about vocals going through a tube compressor yet a digital limiter is excellent for keeping it under control. Heavy guitars just love a good old fashioned preamp on the way in but appreciate immensely a Waves C4 doing the classic Andy Sneap trick. As for mastering: every ROYAL HUNT album´s been mastered into two kinds of media – digital for CD and tape for LP... works just fine.

I heard some really bad sounding stuff made in a million dollar studios and some amazing productions completed on a simple laptop. There´re no rules, use whatever´s working for you, just make sure to use it wisely 😈

✍️ Reviewed by Metal Express Radio: 🍫 ...more candy for the fans of 🇩🇰 Danish progsters ROYAL HUNT 🇩🇰 - Andersen - the main composer behind that band, is truly in a very fertile period in his life. I was going to state that André saves his best songs for Royal Hunt, but listening to this record once again I realize it’s not really far from the quality he delivers with that band. This could very well have been a Royal Hunt record, and fans would have no reason to complain about change of style or songwriting. The singer is the well known Ian Parry

Some of the stuff here (especially the opener “Coming Home”) is just as hard and fast as “Total Recall” from the Royal’s last album, my favorite track by the way, and other songs are just as melodic as anything off the last two-three Hunt discs. Andre, apart from handling his main instrument, the keyboards, also play bass and guitars, though the guitar solos are done by Rene Rieland... Bottom line, the album is unique in the same way as that other band which I am sick and tired of mentioning by now, and it’s by all means a great one.

📺💣...almost every song draws upon what goes on and is being fed to us in a daily media.... "Hunted" has radio transmission about SARS and other recent headlines, "Can’t Let Go" simulates jets and helicopters flying over with machine gun firing in the background, "The Prayer" reckons the man walking into a chapel to spend a few quiet moments tet-a-tet with the Almighty, "Wicked Lounge" has billiard balls clanging and girls laughing wildly. It is easy to try and set the mood with all those gimmicks, but if music ultimately fails, nothing can save the album.

André Andersen’s third and – as most fans of his rock offerings would probably agree on – unusual solo album. Instrumental piano piece (although featuring an acoustic guitar, a violin and a cello appearing occasionally on a few cuts) written and performed in the neoclassical style yet constantly stretching into various genres… an interesting escapist, chill-out journey. ROYAL HUNT BEGINS PRE-ORDERING CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT THE RELEASE OF “DYSTOPIA – PART 2”.

ROYAL HUNT announced the beginning of pre-ordering campaign for their new studio album - a second part of their monumental opus Dystopia. The band invites fans to support the release by pre-ordering the DELUXE EDITION of “Dystopia – Part 2” which will also give ACCESS to exclusive materials:

• Full video updates;
• First-hand information and media;
• Listening parties – you will be the first to hear the new material;
• VIP shopping for individual items;
• Album download on the release date

The campaign will be run by the bands home label NorthPoint Productions I/S (Denmark) – as usual – "thus we are free to decide when to release, what to release, in which format and with how many extras" - says the Band on their page. The “regular” CDs will afterwards be distributed by Sound Pollution Distribution (Sweden) .

Message from the band: “Thinking back to the release date of the “Part 1” back in 2020 makes you realize what a crazy time we all went through just during the last two years: who could have imagined that our “Dystopia” – project would reflect the harsh reality in such detail? And the madness is still ongoing.
In any case, “Dystopia – Part 2” is even more relevant today than ever: we followed the general concept yet filled it up with images of current events in order to make it resonate with every person, everybody living through 2020 to 2022 and watching insanity to unfold in real time”.

✒️ About the album.
“RH burst out with Paper Blood in 2005- a furiously melodic gem which playfully danced among 80s hard rock, prog metal, and power metal. John West charges through these tracks with an arena-ready voice of the gods and he’s the main reason why there’s an 80s flavor to this, aside from the guitar crunch and attitude. His voice isn’t quite as operatic as most power metal singers and isn’t as clean as most prog metal singers. Instead, he sounds more like a huskier Bon Jovi or any number of AOR vocalists, which isn’t a bad thing. Get it out of your head right now that that’s a bad thing.

Throughout the entire album the keyboards buzz right through your body, severing bone and muscle in the most pleasurable way possible. They’re not brutal, but the tone used is so heavy and astral that it makes you think twice about pi***ng on them as leading instruments. If you’re going to listen to music like this, you should expect to hear keyboards and like them in healthy quantities. The good thing is that this album loves them, but they’re not flowery and there’s a solid riff base supporting all this. I dare you to sit through any of the three instrumentals without going through the rest of your life with a brain of fried mush.
Lyrically, Paper Blood is about money and how it practically runs through all of our veins, capillaries, and arteries, figuratively speaking. It took me a while to figure out what the hell paper blood is, but when it dawned on me it was marvelous. The social consciousness prog is known for is well on display here, rest assured. Songs such as “Break Your Chains”(which was nominated for a best metal song on a list a couple years ago) and “Never Give Up” also deliver powerful messages of self-actualization and self-empowerment. We sure need that nowadays.
