Salzburg celebrates Mozart's 269th birthday today! The world-famous composer is omnipresent in the city of his birth all year round and sometimes makes us forget that Salzburg's musical history also has so many other names and stories to offer. Find out when you come to Salzburg for the international IAML Congress in July 2025. Registration starts soon!

We're still waiting for Salzburg to look as snowy as in the pictures, but Christmas is coming for sure.
Preparations for the congress are taking a short holiday break, but will be resumed with renewed vigour in the new year.
The call for papers brought the impressive number of over 150(!) submissions. Once the papers have been viewed and selected, the congress programme will be presented and then registration can begin.
So many good reasons for anticipation!
Only 198 days to go!

Thank you for joining us at our panel discussion last week on digital score platforms, led by Stephanie Bonjack (University of Colorado, Boulder) and Katherine Penner (University of Manitoba Libraries). We heard about five different platforms for using digital music and the features of each. The presentation was followed by a discussion and questions from our day-to-day experiences, with a particular focus on how our library patrons use digital scores and how to teach these tools.

Exclusively for IAML members, the recording can now be viewed on the IAML website in the members' area. After logging into the IAML website, click the link on the left-hand side for the "IAML Members' Area". Midway down the page is a section "IAML Online Events," where the panel is linked.

Not yet a member of IAML? You can join by contacting your national branch or the IAML treasurer. More information about becoming a member of IAML can be found here: https://www.iaml.info/how-become-member

Digital scores are slowly becoming ubiquitous in the music studio and on stage. Adoption across music libraries, archives, and documentation centres varies widely, and now is a good time to dive into what is available and how these platforms work. In this session, we will review a number of the dominant digital scores platforms available to libraries supporting music study. While a few of these platforms are designed primarily with individual users in mind, more and more institutions are looking to include these collections in their holdings. We will look closely at the experiences of users when using these resources in the institutional setting.

Panelists and organizers:
- Stephanie Bonjack, Music, Theatre & Dance Librarian; Head of Collections, Materials Management & Cataloging Section, University of Colorado Boulder, USA
- Katherine Penner, Music, Film & Theatre Liaison Librarian, University of Manitoba Libraries, Canada

Moderator: Rupert Ridgewell, IAML President

Join RILM this evening, in Rome or live on YouTube!

It's the day we've been waiting for! RILM cordially invites you to join us for the release of DEUMM Online today, Wednesday, 30 October 2024, at 7:30 pm CET / 2:30 pm EST. Co-sponsored by the Associazione fra i Docenti Universitari Italiani di Musica (ADUIM) and IAML-Italia, the event will take place in the Teatro Palladium auditorium in Rome, Italy.
DEUMM Online digitizes, enhances, and extends the Dizionario enciclopedico universale della musica e dei musicisti (DEUMM), the most important modern music dictionary in the Italian language. Comprising a broad range of entries (persons, topics, dances, genres, geographical locations, institutions, instruments, and works), DEUMM Online uses advanced and intuitive search and translation functionalities. This venerable music encyclopedia, which has set the standards in modern Italian music lexicography, is, in its new online format, once again an indispensable node in a comprehensive, international, networked research experience.

The program will include Daniele Trucco's DEUMM-inspired music, greetings from Luca Aversano (President, ADUIM), Marcoemilio Camera (President, IAML Italia), and Tina Fruehauf (Executive Director, RILM), as well as presentations by Zdravko Blazekovic (Executive Editor, RILM), Stefano Campagnolo (Director, Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma), Alex Braga (composer), and DEUMM Online’s general editors Antonio Baldassarre and Daniela Castaldo. Pianist Giuseppe Magagnino will also perform works by Ellington, Beethoven, The Beatles, and more.

For those unable to join the Rome event in person, the event will be live streamed on YouTube by Fondazione Roma Tre Teatro Palladium: https://www.youtube.com/
