In a recent update, customization options like binders and top surgery scars were added to the base game in The Sims 4. At Character Localization, we are extremely proud of having contributed for more than a decade to a game that actively strives to make its players feel included and represented. Trans and q***r people are often grossly underrepresented in popular culture, and that's why pioneer games like The Sims 4 are enormously important, because they contribute to a more tolerant and inclusive gaming culture ❤️

We love working on all types of games, but it’s always something special when we get to localize a game made by a Danish indie studio. This time translating Gerda: A Flame in Winter turned out to be extra special for the linguist working on the project:

“It truly was an extraordinary experience translating Gerda: A Flame in Winter. Partly because it’s an incredibly well-written and captivating story about love and courage, which confronts you with choices that really make you think, but perhaps especially because my own family originated in Sønderjylland where the game takes place. My great-grandfather was a bookseller, and during the Occupation, the N***s arrested him for printing illegal flyers for the Resistance. Working on Gerda, I got the opportunity to have some long and interesting talks with my grandpa about his father’s arrest (he thankfully survived the camp!), the language of the time and region, as well as what it was like living your daily life during the N**i occupation. I tried to pour as much of that knowledge into the translation, and I hope it shows.”
