This video shows my build of the A-10 Thunderbolt II re-released by Italeri in 2016 as part of their Gulf War 25th Anniversary series. I had this kit in my stash for quite some time but postponed building it due to my mixed experiences with the Italeri brand. Being a kit from the 1990s it has some nice details but also some construction flaws and fit issues and is not quite up to date with today’s standards. However, you can build a really nice model from it if you are willing to put in a bit of extra effort.

The Boeing C-40B is a military version of the 737-700 Boeing Business Jet operated by the United States Air Force. It is a medium air transport for senior military and government leaders and is equipped with modern communication capabilities.

This model is my first airliner scale model build. I always had a strong interest in airliners but all of the plastic scale models I have built are military aircraft only. So with this build of the Boeing C-40B I wanted to kind of throw a bridge between both fields of aviation.

It was also my first Zvezda kit, and I have to say I like it a lot! The quality is really good. The parts are finely detailed and fit perfectly, no issues at all. The included instruction sheet has some small errors like a few mixed up part numbers but nothing serious. Decals are okay and robust to work with, however they are pretty thick. Two white decals developed a kind of red tint after bringing on Tamiya X-22 clear varnish, no idea why this happened. Also the passenger window decals are not measured correctly. They do not fit the windows in the fuselage and need to be cut in smaller pieces.

Overall I am quite satisfied with this build. It was my first model with a high gloss finish which was a bit of a challenge for me. Since the C-40 is a well maintained and perfectly cleaned aircraft for government purposes I did not add any weathering to my model. I think this fits the look of the actual aircraft best – even if I usually like to have my planes pretty dirty and worn.

It was intended to be a straightforward out of the box build for my small Operation Desert Storm fleet but required a lot of time and effort due to some considerable fit issues with fuselage, cockpit and instrument panel. Also the included Italeri decals (made by Cartograf) once more gave me headaches with their wrong color – they are too light and barely visible over the Ghost Grey color scheme. I’m quite pleased with the final result though, the fully loaded Intruder still looks impressive on my shelf. What do you think? Thanks for your support! Cheers, Oliver/RWO

Grumman TBF-1 Avenger 1/72 Academy 12452 Full Build Video | RWO Models

The Grumman TBF Avenger (or TBM manufactured by General Motors) is a torpedo bomber from World War II. It entered service in 1942 and was used by various air and naval aviation services around the world. The TBF-1 was the original model with more than 1,500 built. More than 9,800 TBF/TBM were produced in total, and the plane remained in service until the 1960s.

The video shows my build of Academy’s older but still available TBF-1 kit in 1/72 scale originally released in 1987. Details and fit are not quite up to today’s standards but I wanted to build a nice Avenger to add to my small Pacific War fleet. Paint and weathering are inspired by vintage photos and film footage. It may look a bit intense but I think this is what the planes looked like during their hard service. Let me know what you think of this build. Your comments and opinions are highly appreciated.

Hi everybody, the next 1/72 scale build is getting along. This time I’m working on an older kit, the Academy TBF Avenger. It will complement my small US Navy Pacific War model collection. The kit definitely shows its age, but I hope I’ll be able to present a decent looking model to you guys soon. :)

North American B-25B Doolittle Raid 1/72 A06020 Full Build Video | RWO Models

The North American B-25 Mitchell is a medium bomber from World War II that was used by many Allied air forces. Nearly 10.000 B-25s were built and served in different roles. Probably the most famous mission flown with B-25s was the „Doolittle Raid“ under the command of Lieutenant Colonel James H. Doolittle. On 18 April 1942 a small group of 16 aircraft were launched from the US carrier Hornet and attacked Tokyo and other places in Japan. The inflicted damage was minimal, but the attack provided an important morale boost to the Americans. Of the 80 crew members, 77 survived the mission. Doolittle was awarded the Medal of Honor and was promoted to brigadier general.

In this video I show you my build and interpretation of the recently released 1/72 scale Airfix B-25B, Doolittle Raid version, nicknamed „Hari Kari-er“. It is truly a fantastic kit with great details, high quality and perfect fit on almost every part. Instructions and decals are also very well made.
