Always boost with a wide Q.
Narrow Q's and notches are usually for removing stuff we don't want in our tracks. 😌👌🏼
Be careful you don't add too much this can also sound too pleasant. 🥴
Really use your ears and not your eyes when boosting.
Because sometimes stuff needs +12db of boosting, but it can look too much when looking at it. 👀

If you keep your gain structure clean when exporting, you will always have a happy mixing or mastering engineer. 🤗
But seriously, if you export clipping tracks out of your DAW, stuff will not sound good in the end. 😳
Digital distortion is one of the ugliest things to have on a track. 🥴
Analog distortion is one of the things that we would like to have on a track. 😉
For example from a nice preamp or compressor.
So keep that in mind next time exporting!
✅ 1. No clipping on any channel what so ever
✅ 2. Analog distortion, if done right is stuff we want to hear
✅ 3. Also don't record your stuff so quiet so there are no visible waveforms

Balance is one of the most important skills when I comes to mixing. ⚖️
That's why many songs don't sound as professional as others do.
One simple trick, is to listen on different monitors or headphones to get a better result and feeling how your music sounds like. 🔊🎧
And also really try to practice listening to professional mixed songs how they are balanced. And then try to include this into your workflow. 📝

By that, we as mixing engineers can make a way more impactful sound out of your tracks, because we have more tonal control with the clean DI track. 🎸
