When and How to Use Clipping?

Think of audio clipping like using scissors to trim the peaks of a transient. While limiting compresses the peaks and reduces their impact, clipping allows you to manage those peaks more aggressively.

When to Use Clipping:
👉 Gain More Headroom: Clipping can help tame peaks in a signal, creating additional headroom in your mix.
👉 Before a Limiter: Applying clipping before a limiter can reduce the workload on the limiter, resulting in a more transparent sound. This approach can prevent the limiter from overreacting to sudden peaks.
👉Increase Loudness: Clipping can enhance loudness without squashing the signal, as it selectively reduces the peaks while maintaining the overall dynamics.

Dangers of Clipping:
Clipping can introduce unwanted and harsh distortions if overused. Always monitor your adjustments on a high-quality playback system to detect any distortions that may arise in the audio signal. It's essential to be mindful of the type of clipping you apply—soft clipping tends to produce a warmer sound, while hard clipping can lead to more aggressive distortion.

Where to Use Clipping:
👉Kick Drums: Reduce peaks to increase overall loudness and sustain.
👉Snares: Tame peaks for a more powerful and punchy sound.
Kick Bass Group: Gain more control, loudness, and headroom without compromising low-end presence.
👉Drum Group: Enhance control, loudness, and impact, creating a cohesive sound.
👉Mastering: Achieve loudness while allowing the limiter to work more transparently, ensuring a polished final product.

A low thrumming emanates forth from the edges of the portal before you, its hum as hypnotic as the form that hovers in the sky on the other side. Unbelievably, its form is that which has been recounted endlessly among conspiracists and pulp fiction tales alike - a circular starship with sides that flare gently outwards to form the shape of a saucer. On the horizon, you can make out a cluster of huddled figures seemingly caught in its wake, similarly enthralled as yourself by this perfect specimen of a classical alien craft. Will you venture forth and discover the truth behind these age-old tales and uncover the identities of those that have for so long walked AMONG US?

6FOOT6 & VERSCHALLT join the VISION SERPENT roster with their latest single AMONG US, featuring additional remixes by Roman Adam & label head David Phoenix. Shimmering into existence before lies a portal to a fungal forest you have visited once before, marked by massive mycological growths that spread their spores skyward amidst the alien atmosphere. Yet there upon the other side of the portal stands none other than yourself, embarked upon your first journey into another alien world. Your mind writhes with confusion and, sensing this, the telepathic tongue of the VISION SERPENT laps at the inside of your skull.

“There exists a possible error in transdimensional travel,” states the serpent’s sibilant voice, “Even a being so great as I cannot stop certain universal threads from inexorably intertwining. The being you see now before you is born of CLONAL TRANSPLANTATION, a reverberation of yourself given life amidst the resonant strings of space-time. It shall follow your every footstep as a shadow, a phantom, a memory, until such time as its echo decays to meet your own. It is imperative now that you not fall behind, dear mortal, or you shall be lost amidst the crossing of twin time streams in terror.”

DAVID PHOENIX returns to his VISION SERPENT imprint with CLONAL TRANSPLANTATION, a single featuring an additional remix by Joseph Disco. Driven by a singularly monolithic bassline, CLONAL TRANSPLANTATION’s original mix is narrated by a cinematic vocal sample that leads listeners along a mind-bending exploration of dancefloor consciousness. The remix by Joseph Disco darkens the track’s atmosphere, its sonic character set to slide easily into darkened dancefloors and set them abuzz with the steady roar of its low-end melody.
