Today I had the pleasure to organize and moderate the first Vinexposium press conference in Germany. Specialised wine media and representatives of Deutsches Weininstitut and VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) followed the presentation of Sylvain Faureau and Camille Cordasco about Wine Paris. With more than 4.600 exhibitors from 50 countries and 50.000 visitors the show will take place from February 10 - 12 at the Expo Centre Portes de Versailles - and continue it's impressive succes story. The German participation will grow for 81 percent of surface, China with 152 percent, Romania with 92 percent, Spain with 65 percent, Portugal with 62 and Austria with 58. Italy will double its participation.
Wine Paris will also see many new National pavillons, for example Argentina, Australia, Chile, South Africa, Uruguay, Armenia, Hungary and North Macedonia.

My promotion tour for Concours Mondial de Bruxelles through CEE countries is in full swing. After Czech Republic with my dear friend Martin Puček and Slovakia with Jaro Macik yesterday I had interesting talks with Péter Molnár from Tokaj wine producers consortium and today a great CMB presentation with awarded labels at the Hungarian Wine Gettogether at supermodern Sauska Winery in Rátka. Thank you very much, dear Agi Nemeth for giving me this opportunity! Today winery visits at Royal Tokaj, Disznokö, Hétszölö and Samuel Tinin with his wife and dear CMB tasters colleague Mathilde Hulot - two Frenchies living in Tokaj region for over 25 years. Next stops: Somló and Lake Balaton. Croatia, BiH, Montenegro and Serbia following the next two weeks.😂😁🙏🥰👍💪🍾🥂🍷🇨🇿🇸🇰🇱🇺

Good to be back to my Romanian friends at VINARIUM competition this year in Ploieşti! Record number of 1502 samples (with a little help from xenos-comm) from 26 countries to evaluate during three days. Jury no. 3 with Arina Antoce (Romania), Neslihan Ivit (Turkey), Richard Pfister (Switzerland), Cosmin Popescu (Romania) and myself did a very professional job with awarding quite a few gold and more silver medals today. The afternoon saw us at the wonderful Casa Timiş Resort in Dealu Mare wine region, where we had a spectacular dinner in the midst of an amphitheatre of Vines. What makes VINARIUM outstanding is their wonderful team headed by Catalin Paduraru, Daniela Paduraru and their daughter Ruxandra Paduraru. Great Romanian hospitality and a personal touch to everything!

1285 wines from 27 countries, 55 tasters from all around the world at Weinbauschule Silberberg, four days of dense programme visiting top wineries in Südsteiermark, Vulkanland and Weststeiermark - the was an amazing and very successful event! Big thanks to the team of with Andrea Jöbstl-Pratt, Ellen Kneib and President Stefan Potzinger for perfect organisation! Will be difficult to top that...
Another thanks to my marvellous fellow tasters in jury no. 1, which I had the honor to preside: Johan Tondeur from Belgium, Raphael Nemond (France), Will Hill (UK) and Wolfgang Wachter (Austria). We did a good job, guys, and were very consistent in evaluation. Not by coincidence, many Styrian wines were rated high!
wouldn't be itself without all the moments of friendship - for instance when the one and only Jolanta Smičienė from Lithuania comes around with a bottle of 2012 Champagne sharing it with me and my other dear friends Manuel Negrete from Mexico, Pasi Ketolainen MW from Finland and RJ Botha (South Africa). Maybe the most touching moment this year was at Weingut Gross in Ratsch, when senior boss Alois opened a series of old wines for us, culminating in some from 1997. !!

BIG NEWS: Concours Mondial de Bruxelle Launches the South Africa Selection by CMB!

In an exciting development for the South African wine industry, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has launched a national competition. The South Africa Selection by CMB is more than a wine and spirits competition; it's a global event which will add real value to every entrant while actively promoting SA's wine culture internationally.

The inaugural edition opens for entries on 1 June, with judging taking place in September 2024 in Cape Town.
