Das Leben als Freelancer:in ist fantastisch. Das Leben als Freelancer:in ist kein Zuckerschlecken! 🤷‍♀️ (Und manchmal kann beides gleichzeitig wahr sein 🤪!)

Hand auf's Herz, ich denke die meisten Freelancer:innen waren schon mal in der Situation, vor allem zu Anfang (ich eingeschlossen)! Du hast ein, zwei tolle Projekte, mehr Glück als Verstand. Vielleicht auch einen Kontakt, von dem immer wieder etwas kommt. Den Job machst du sowieso super und du bist hochmotiviert. Aber dann versiegt die Anfangsquelle, der Markt wird schwieriger....
Du kannst dich nicht entscheiden: Welche von deinen vielen Stärken möchtest du anbieten? Welche Kunden bedienen? Am liebsten alle! Und da verzettelst du dich.

➡️ An dieser Stelle ist die Gefahr hoch, dass du anfängst, vereinzelten Aufträgen nachzujagen. Das Adrenalin pumpt, die Schweißperlen stehen auf der Stirn, ob es doch wieder klappt, dass deine Einnahmen hoch genug sind. Spaß bleibt dabei manchmal auf der Strecke. Du kommst in eine extrem anstrengende Phase - zwar mit vereinzelten Hochs - die dich aber nicht weiterbringt und über die Zeit einfach nur ausbrennt.

This to me is a universal rule, but it seems with product content in e-commerce it's neglected so often.

Your content needs to:

🏵️ inform
🏵️ entertain
🏵️ speak to the emotions of your audience
🏵️ suit the rational side of the brain
🏵️ fulfill criteria like understandability, credibility and readability
🏵️ answer known but maybe also unasked questions of your potential customer
🏵️ (don't get me started on technical aspects, meta data, algorithms and so on...)

Of course, all of these aspects need to be in perfect balance. Easy, isn't it :)? (Is that the reason why this craft is ignored completely more often than not?)

What exactly do you think about, when you hear talk about "customer centricity"?

For many this term is still vague and not very tangible. There is danger, that it is used as a buzz word without true foundation. This may make it hard to imagine how to pursue in a structured and way.

To turn random customers into loyal fans and a longterm revenue-stream, you need to win their hearts and trust. Your product content is embedded and told like a really good story.

You need a product content strategy, if you are selling products online and want to achieve this goal.

🔥 What is a product content strategy?🔥

Product content strategy is a sub-strategy, which is aligned with your company's vision and your overall marketing strategy, but focusses specifically on how to educate, delight, and support your audience with your product content e.g. in your own Webshop, in online-stores and on marketplaces. A core objective obviously is winning customers and increasing your conversion rates - yet sophisticated product content strategies are so much more than good direct marketing or ux copy. As so often, you have to understand the ❤️ of your customers to succeed.

Where should you start?

1️⃣ Who are your customers and which problems does your product solve?
If you are just starting, ideally you begin with a beta-phase or a minimum viable product and test, test, test. That way you will have a quick and steep learning curve as to what your customers seek. If we talk about existing products, you should have tons of information already, sometimes hidden in customer complaints, market research, customer surveys, web data (and I could go on and on).

2️⃣ What do you know about the market and your competitors?
Do you offer a brand new solution or are you entering a crowded market? What does your product different/better than the others? How can this be communicated in a way, that resonates with your clients?

3️⃣ Which channels do make sense for you, in what order?
Which digital channels respectively e-commerce platforms should be your priority to start with? If you plan to go international: which markets go first? There are many data points helpful to answer this question, but a relativ big one does go unconsidered by astonishingly many companies: which of those platforms will be most profitable for you, considering all efforts for handling including logistics and returns?

When I worked at one of the questions to reflect if oneself or somebody else did stick to a was to ask:
"When was the last time you changed something that added value to the experience of your customer, that the customer had not actively asked for?"

I love this question because it tells you if the consideration of the customer experience has become a habit instead of being a random, one-time reaction to a problem. I have a set of this and similar questions which I apply to myself and my client's businesses regularly.

at the wrong place often keeps us from reaching our goals and can even keep us from moving at all.
When I started out to share content here on LinkedIn, this would often slow me down or block good stories from turning into posts completely. Through exchange with friends and colleagues I changed my perspective. I remind myself frequently:

🔥 Many people on Social Media don’t have much time to read, so posts do not need to be overly lengthy or deep. (There are other places and ways to show that kind of premium content, of course.)
🔥That being said, having a particular expertise often makes us blind to see that we are of course delivering valuable information to those who don’t work in the same field. Even or sometimes especially if we don't go into every detail.
🔥Mostly we are too and our work is likely better than we give ourselves credit for.
🔥Most of all: showing up authentically in a consistent way creates more trust and sympathy than 150% flawless work.

Up to now, this reflection served me very well.

The past years of covid-pandemic fueled the eCommerce activities of many traditional companies. After they can look back on promising successes in their first tests, they realize that they have to shape their organization differently for longterm results.
Great to observe a deep level of internal reflection and willingness to act for change vs. only talk about it, for some companies I have insight to!

I have talked about the importance of the here a couple of times already. A basic concept, which I often find totally ignored by many companies. In the details of how marketing strategies are set up, implemented and structured, you can recognize true versus the common "everybody can do marketing"-attitude. You need deep concerning your target audience and broad as well (to highlight only two of several requirements) to build this right 💡.

Are you, like me, belonging to a group of people driven by 🔥high , maybe blessed by a (usually) good physical constitution and therefore great level of energy, combined with endless amount of 🐱 curiosity? Due to this I very rarely feel bored and love to turn my thoughts into action.

But even though I consider myself a calm and considerate mind, the above mentioned points made me suffer from a kind of business-wise in the past. I always wanted to reach all of my many . And...
.."Do I not need to jump onto this trend and that one much quicker, to catch all the formidable opportunities?"...
.."Oh, see there on LinkedIn, person X has already communicated an idea I have long since thought about..."

You probably know the game! This still happens to me sometimes. But I have learned to come to terms with my now and then overly ambitious years ago. and are key for a balanced life and long term business success. My previous path also led me to believe that there are plentiful opportunities for everyone, so there is no need for "fear of missing out".
In daily life, this still is easier said than done though. Right now I am looking back on the past year and review where I am towards my objectives. Due to my nature, there is always something to do left at the end of the year 🤷♀️. Recently my colleague Birgit Ströbel mentioned a great trick to handle these "leftover objectives":

1. Look at which of your objectives from this year you want to move over to next year.
(Some other goals on the list may simply have turned out as "not important enough", so feel how liberating it is to delete them entirely 😄!)

2. Take a little bit of time to plan the selected objectives ahead for Q1 2023, e.g. create an actionable roadmap or figure out now already where to get the resources / help you need.

🌱 Result: It will be a lot easier to actually with these objectives in #2023. In fact, in January it might feel as if you made great progress already. This will boost your motivation for 2023 right at its start and increase your chance to deliver on more of your objectives than in previous years!

Lately at an event I got a vivid lecture by Prof. Henning Piezunka about how we all sometimes are acting under a towards "the unheard voices" in teams and cultures, whether we want it or not. Constant self reflection, questioning your own actions, making your peers and colleagues aware of this are the the only way to yourself towards a truly inclusive .

Three smart questions for yourself to avoid ignoring different perspectives or minorities by accident: 💥

💥 In your team discussion, did you hear different opinions or is it very homogenous? (Then maybe somebody did not dare to speak up).
💥 Do you hire by sympathy, e.g. "this persons personality will be a great fit to the rest of the team", or by added value of skillsets and different experience? The later may lead to less felt harmony short term but more diversity, personal growth and different perspectives long term, which goes together with more and in most cases.
💥 Do you listen to your employees and/or peers in order to understand what they mean, or in order to give smart answers, find quick solutions and "go the easy way"?

Applying smart methods like this internally to hear and understand your employees is a necessary first step to do the same with your eventually (and enable your teams to do the same) 🙃.

Here is what you should know about them.

OKR stands for objectives and key results. It's a method to set and track measurable goals pioneered by John Doerr, who implemented it at Google among others.

So far, so good, but why should you care about OKRs?

Here are 5 reasons:

1️⃣ OKRs are a great way to communicate your companies' strategy in a simple and practical way inside teams and beyond.

2️⃣ OKRs can inspire and guide a teams' work in the short term (using key results) and long term (using objectives).

3️⃣ OKRs can help align strategies in a team-of-teams and lead to more cohesive outcomes.

🦄 Be patient with the marketing and content strategies you build: do one step at a time. beats .
🦄 Pay attention to the distinct and of every marketing channel.
🦄 Test and learn humble and consequently.

👍 You may see short term results already if you are lucky. Over time, foundation for your longterm success is built.
