So I've now had a day and a half to recover from the awesomeness that was 14 Years of Keep it a Secret on Saturday. This show just had everything and more: a great crowd, an excited vibe all through the night, good talks, surprise visits from far-away friends, great bands, spontaneous karaoke, and a pineapple in the moshpit. In short: it was purrfect.
Thanks to Black Square, , and especially for making this anniversary show an unforgettable one.

Der AStA-Arbeitsbereich für Kultur präsentiert:

JENNY DON'T & THE SPURS sind international bekannte Western-Rebel-Cowboy-Punks aus dem legendären und einflussreichen Rock'n'Roll-Untergrund von Portland, Oregon.
Nach dem tragischen Tod von Schlagzeuger Sam Henry (WIPERS) besteht die Band aus Sängerin Jenny Don't (Don't, Ladies Of The Night), Kelly Haliburton (P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S., Pierced Arrows, Defiance etc.) und Dean Miles (Rancid Vat).

Die sonst eher aus Punkrock- und Garage-Zusammenhängen bekannten Leute huldigen hier alten, klassischen Country- und Protestsängern aus den 1940er und 50er Jahren wie Patsy Cline, Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams Sr. oder Loretta Lynne. Musik aus einer Ära, in der die Grenzen zwischen Rock'n'Roll und Country noch verschwommen waren und in der Musiker wie Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash und Carl Perkins zusammen touren konnten, ohne dass jemand mit der Wimper zuckte.

Auch mit neuem Line-up und nach unzähligen Shows in den USA, Europa und Australien sind die Intensität und Energie ihres Livesets ein Muss für alle, die temperamentvolle, von Garage inspirierte Country-Musik mögen, die mit Aufrichtigkeit und Überzeugung gespielt wird.

EAMON MCGRATH is a Toronto-based musician with a 15+ year touring history of Canada, the UK, the USA, Europe, Mexico and Japan. He has released over 25 albums, written 2 books, scored 2 feature films, and has toured the world relentlessly since 2007, cultivating an international audience and committed, loyal network of fans. His fiercely DIY approach has garnered him respect and admiration in both the indie rock and folk communities, as he effortlessly bridges a gap between both genres, composing heartbreakingly beautiful songs that are performed with an honest, intense energy on stages worldwide.

Tracked by McGrath alone in Windsor, ON, and compiled from songs composed during a 10-month world tour in support of Bells of Hope, A Dizzying Lust features McGrath channeling the frontier spirit of a folk singer alone on the road with an acoustic guitar. McGrath’s trademark notoriety as a savage rocker is traded in for a subtle minimalism and focused attention to the lyrics

KEEP IT A SECRET wird 14 Jahre alt!
Das wird gefeiert!

Back in the mire of the early nineties, from somewhere beneath a pile of wallet chains and cut-off army pants FRENZAL RHOMB emerged, their white suburban fingers clutching onto goon casks and bucket bongs and other appropriate paraphernalia. Before too long those fingers wrote riffs and those riffs became songs and their voices sung rhyming swear words in perfect(ish) three-part harmony. This went on for a while. And Frenzal Rhomb ARE still here, and they've just released their tenth album! (Or are about to release it, depending on when you're reading this; in fact they could have released it ages ago, if for example you're reading this years into the future. If so, how are we holding up? Can we tour via teleportation yet? Or is the world a barren wasteland?)
Anyway, new album, The Cup Of Pestilence, our tenth out now/soon/still.

Außerdem mit dabei: WÜT: Berlin-based four-piece Crust/Punk/Metal Band. Speeding riffs, pi**ed off vocals mixed with rolling beat, doublebass and midtempo stomping parts! Songs at the edge of a wild punk party and the will to set the world (or the next thrash bin) on fire, always keeping in mind that we are united in anger.

When two labels and half of the band randomly find themselves in the same JUZ, and when it's also that record's 5th birthday, it's picture time for sure. LP "Da ist kein Licht" was released on this day 5 years ago, and it's a really great piece of HC-Deutschpunk. and each happen to have a couple of vinyl left, so how about you treat yourself?

I honestly can't say how stoked I am to annouce the newest release, namely the debut album of my band City Speak. We're doing LPs (on ice ice baby vinyl - it's so pretty!) and CDs, and this is a co-release with Snappy Little Numbers Quality Audio Recordings (US), Shield Recordings (NL) and Cat's Claw Records (UK).
