Powerhouse mandé jazz ensemble @balimayaproject will release their second album When The Dust Settles on July 21st via @newsoilmusic x @jazzrefreshed
Today, they unveil the album’s third single “Suley’s Ablution” and an accompanying video directed by @adeoluosibodu
A moving ballad, ‘Suley’s Ablution’ addresses the death of bandleader Yahael Camara Onono’s first child, a tragedy he only began to process when he became a father once more. Held in the open support of the group, these feelings are guided to resolution by the Zinli rhythm from Nigeria and Benin, traditionally played at Royal Funerals to aid spirits on their way out of the mortal realm. Mixed with a bata ensemble, played for the spirit guides of Egun, the track demonstrates the emotional and musical maturity of a band at the height of its powers.
Camara Onono says: “I became a Father to a son at a young age. and unfortunately Suleyman passed away, it took me a long time to process my feelings and deal with that tragedy alone. It was not until I had been given a second chance with my children that I have been able to start addressing the grief that I didn’t know I was carrying. My ablution is now expressing my grief through music and accepting that I can’t deal with this alone and starting to lean on my community. The Zinli rhythm from Nigeria and Benin is played at Royal Funerals and it’s a way of aiding the spirits on their way out of the mortal realm.”

A plethora of good news today from EMABT. A new single, a new video, and a new 45.
@elmichelsaffair & @blackthought drop the title track and official video from their forthcoming album ‚Glorious Game‘ on @bigcrownrecords today. An infectious bouncy tune that Black Thought finds the perfect pocket on with his seemingly effortless flow. Thought’s rhymes are somewhere between asserting his brilliance and balancing it with his humility in lines like “for real, I’m just trying to be the best me” and “my mind is hard to explain, call y’all all aboard for this train”. KIRBY ( @singkirbysing ) sings the chorus with her distinct voice and luscious melodies putting the song comfortably at home in the speakers of a Cadillac. El Michels Affairs’ unstoppable production pulls all these elements together with this ear worm instant classic.
The mind blowing animated video is a panther’s fantastical journey through an ice world where materialism decays and spirituality blooms. Animated and directed by Gurgen Aloian ( @gurgen_aloian ) with co-production by Camden Coxson ( @checkscashedart ).
“Grateful” b/w “Glorious Game” 45 is available in the BCR Webstore and on Bandcamp now, out worldwide in all finer record stores on March 17th.

@elmichelsaffair & @blackthought drop “That Girl” from their forthcoming „Glorious Game“ album perfectly timed for Valentine’s Day. The song’s intro sounds like the start of a sweet soul classic but instead of group harmony in falsetto, the beat switches up and slaps the listener in the face with swimming 808s and off kilter percussion. Black Thought waxes poetic about his muse in a way only he can, avoiding all the usual tropes of a classic love song. Check it out via our #linkinbio
Glorious Game is out April 14th via @bigcrownrecords.

Sunny & The Sunliners drop "If I Could See You Now" via @bigcrownrecords today! Most of their biggest tunes are slowies or mid-tempo ballads, but here they turn up the heat with the dance floor filler "If I Could See You Now." Originally released as the B side to their stellar classic "Should I Take You Home," which was billed as the plug side of the promo pressing, "If I Could See You Now" truly gives that A side a run for its money from the instant the organ intro starts to when the drum beat kicks and and all bets are off.

"Mr Brown Eyed Soul Vol. 2" will be available upcoming Friday, July 15.
@ladynicolewray releases another instant classic from her forthcoming ‚Piece Of Me‘ album which will drop via @bigcrownrecords January 28. The in your face, head nodding, show stopping tune, “Through It All”, rips out of the speaker from the first crack of the snare followed by Nicole’s pitched up and infectious chorus. The tried and true chemistry of Lady Wray and producer @elmichelsaffair is on full display here as they push the envelope of current R&B and Soul, setting them apart from their peers. Nicole sings a song about dedication through the ups and downs on a track that has so much energy it is sure to move crowds around the globe.

Check out “Galaxy in Leimert” – the new single by @jamael_dean featuring @sharadalatika. This wonderful tune is taken from the album „Primordial Waters“, out Oct 29 via @stonesthrow.
The song references Los Angeles neighborhood Leimert Park – “the cultural heartbeat of black LA” – a district that has historically served as an African-American art and culture hub. “Galaxy In Leimert” is also inspired by Yoruba mythology and praises Alice Coltrane’s 1972 song “Galaxy Around Olodumare,” about one of the Supreme Creator God’s manifestations in the Yoruba Ifá tradition. Sharada Shashidhar’s soaring vocals appear on “Galaxy In Leimert” and throughout the album.

Bobby Oroza’s new single “Make Me Believe” - out on Big Crown Records - is another instant classic for the soul ballad enthusiasts. A moody, soul bearing, cry for help that comes off with a sweetness and charm that Bobby has in spades. The vulnerability makes it romantic while the heavy backing track brings it that unique energy that classic B sides have making them heartbreaking and gorgeous at the same time.

Christmas comes early this year! Happy Release Day for 'A Christmas Gathering' - the new album by the David Friedman Generations Quartet, which is out today in the vinyl version via @malletmuserecords.
The David Friedman Generations Quartet is characterized not simply by a cross-generational approach, but by an almost spectacularly different approach compared to many other bands that have formed around experienced jazz legends in recent years. In the Generations Quartet, four musicians from three generations actually meet at eye level. From the young, up-and-coming generation of the German jazz scene, these are the ECHO-nominated pianist Clara Haberkamp and the popular drummer Tilo Weber. Together with David Friedman's compatriot Josh Ginsburg, they form an irresistible unit. When these four musicians from three generations and different nations get together for a Christmas Gathering, one may admire the effortless feat of musical balancing act between catchy melodies, colorful harmonies and pulsating rhythms.
The band's warm, authentic sound has captivated listeners from the first note, ever since their debut album ‚Flight‘. ‚A Christmas Gathering‘ is not a smoothly polished Christmas album, but a successful attempt to present well-known Christmas songs in a tasteful and equally sophisticated jazz garb.
David Friedman about the album’s opening tune ‚The Christmas Song‘:
„This beautiful composition by Mel Thormé has always given me goosebumps. The piece is a soulful journey through a charming harmonious landscape. The Christmas Song is one of my favorite pieces and still timeless: we' re playing it with the Generations Quartet - even in the summer!“

The Shacks are back with a dreamy tune about an imaginary journey to Japan with a profound effect. “Trip To Japan” starts out with a woman talking about her dream last night where she was dancing with The Shacks in her living room. When Shannon starts singing about how a visit to Japan rejuvenated her soul over the lo-fi backing track you have little choice but to take the ride with her. Out on @bigcrownrecords. #linkinbio
