Hallihalloo👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼

Saw some new beautiful faces here so
I thought I‘d reintroduce myself. 🤓

My name is Eden and I created this page to show you that IT IS 💯POSSIBLE to express yourself in German. 💫

I used to learn German like you and I know about all the hardships you’re most likely going through.

And I want to tell you, show you, prove to you that your wish of speaking and expressing yourself one day in German (without switching to English or your native language) is 💯 possible, 💯 achievable and that you won’t need to take a lifetime to achieve this…

BUT you do need the following:
✅ some daily helpful habits
✅ the right mindset 💯
✅ a roadmap (FAHRPLAN) and most of all
✅ a teachable attitude 😉 because really
✅ ATTitude determines you’re ALTitude 🚀

Some other facts about me:⤵️
🤓 I didn’t study German in the university like most German teachers out there. I didn’t learn German in school. I swear -
I had zero background in German while growing up.

🤓 I only started learning it in my my early thirties when I met my boyfriend’s grandma (Oma). I noticed how much she wanted to share with me about her life during the war & during the DDR era.

🤓And yes, I never aimed for a certificate!! 😉
I wanted to take up my master’s in a German-speaking university and only then was the certificate relevant to me - so I could get admitted to the course. Having a Sprachzertifikat was just a „key“ 🔑- NEVER my goal.

🤓 I became a German teacher by invitation! Prior to that I never even dreamed of teaching German 🙈😝

And now here I am, I’ve survived the German jungle and I live to tell the tale. 😎 Now I ask you, please believe in yourself 💫 and know that you can do it, IF you really want to.

Let’s make some friends 👯‍♀️👯

Sag hallo und stell dich kurz vor⤵️
- Wie heißt du? Woher kommst du?
- Seit wann und warum lernst du deutsch?
- Wohnst du in Deutschland und wenn ja, in welchem Bundesland / in welcher Stadt bist du?
- Was ist deine Lieblingsfarbe und warum?
- Bist du single / vergeben / verheiratet?

Don’t forget this word when learning German ⤵️

Umgangssprache = Colloquial speech
(pronounce like um-gang-schpra-khe)

Why is learning colloquial speech important?

🇩🇪 It makes you more relatable
🇩🇪 you will appear more natural, more authentic
🇩🇪 increases your chances of making German friends
🇩🇪 it makes you a more effective communicator

And now words with „sprache“ in it:
- Muttersprache (mother tongue)
- Fremdsprache (foreign language)
- Babysprache (baby speak)
- Alltagssprache (everyday speech)
- Körpersprache (body language)
- Jugendsprache
- Fachsprache
- Amtssprache

It’s not rocket science. 😉 Here’s what I did to make sure I was speaking German everyday ⤵️

1. Write down where you normally have the chance to or must and want to speak German. Is it at a cafe to order your fave coffee, or at the bus station to offer that old lady the seat beside you, small talking with your neighbor about the weather, or chitchatting to people at the park who find your dog cute?

Identify which kind of interactions and which „points of contact“ (maybe the bus stop or at the park?) are most important to you, learn the phrases/vocabulary relevant to these situation, write them down and have it checked.

2. After writing it down, (you have it checked from a friend or ideally your teacher,) you then go out and actually say it and use those phrases at that „point of contact“ the next day. You want to repeat this as often as you can so you can get used to these phrases, these lines UNTIL they become part of you and until you become comfortably saying these.

3. LISTEN and pay close attention to the replies you will hear. Ideally you write it down right away (what you heard) OR have them repeat it to you. Listening helps train your ear and helps you identify and develop the feel, the rhythm for the language you’re learning. From this, you slowly build your ability to have a feel for which expressions (and phrases) fit a particular situation.

Then just „rinse and repeat“. 😉

I always say this in class⬇️
Learning to speak German is just like learning how to ride a bike. You will only get the feeling of balance once you’re riding on the bike. The same goes true for speaking German.

The more often you speak German, the faster you train your senses. Speak everyday!

And if you’re a busy professional, don’t overwhelm yourself. Start with a line a day. Repeat this whole week until it naturally becomes a part of you. Then build up on it. Slowly but surely you will get there.

Save this for later! And reach out if you need help. Remember, I know your daily struggles so don’t you dare be shy 🌻 Let’s help one another 💛

My rule when learning German ⤵️
Put some relevance to make it more interesting.
Numbers are usually boring, hard to learn, but not if you associate it with money. 😉

READ IF YOU ⤵️
>> Are you thinking of going for a Level B1 language certificate so you can stay longer in beauty Germany 🇩🇪 through a residence permit?

First, know that having a Level B1 means „Alltagssprache“
>> being able to understand everyday normal speech.

There will be 4 language skills you will be tested on⬇️
In each level it is expected that you will be able to „extract“ and be able to understand basic information, this means being able to 1) Understand relevant information in printed materials such as flyers, catalogs, brochures, newspapers;
2) Extract and be able to interpret necessary information from announcements such as radio/TV news, train/bus stations, etc.
🇩🇪Listening skills
🇩🇪Text Comprehension
🇩🇪Writing skills
🇩🇪Speaking skills

Of these four skills >> SPEAKING 🗣️ is most important 💯

The problem I see in most German courses out there focus only on grammar, grammar and grammar. 🫣 They focus on text book German, grammar rules, grammar structures, cases and tenses and somehow its relevance - the connection- to the everyday, to all those daily little moments which make up our lives is forgotten and not taken into consideration. ☹️

Most also don’t even bother to touch on the regional dialect which is the real spoken German we get confronted either. I remember my own days of learning German, I would get what the grammar means in class and the minute I get out, I‘d feel lost with the spoken German I heard on the streets. 😢😅 I can laugh now about it but looking back, it was a pain and a real struggle! 😭

WHICH IS WHY⬇️
I follow a much more immersive approach in teaching German
💯 Textbook - Grammar and Relevance to the Everyday
💯 Integration - Culture - Tradition - Dialect
💯 Spoken German from Day 1
💯 Mindset - Learning Plan - Organisation
💯 Competency-Based Learning Approach

Sooo soo excited to show you how learning German can be more fun, effective and rewarding. You will be speaking from Day 1 - how exciting is that ❤️‍🔥

If you’re ready as I am, then ➡️ DM me and look forward to feeling more at home in Germany with a flowy, conversational kind of German. 🇩🇪 Bis bald!👋🏼

My POV on the „phenomenon“ of being tongue-tied 🫣 Can you relate to this..? ⤵️

>>> You want to say a lot in German, you prepared for it, then you freeze in the moment and blank out. You literally feel tongue-tied as you struggle and force some German words out of your mouth.
First, know that this is NORMAL. There’s nothing wrong with you.
BUT there is something that you’re most likely not doing right (sorry, not sorry😊).

And most of the time, it’s because: >>> You are not speaking enough.

INSTEAD YOU’RE PROBABLY DOING
❌Dozens of fill-in-the-blank grammar exercises
❌ Memorising all kinds of grammar rules
❌ „Studying” grammar tables

➡️ It’s like you want to learn how to ride a bike but instead of actually getting on the bike, you read about riding a bike 🫣😝

IF YOU WANT TO speak German right away -
I wouldn’t start learning grammar. 🫣
(Yes, you may quote me on this 😎)

Because it can lead you to these top 2 language barriers which most learners struggle with:
>> ANALYSIS PARALYSIS
>> FORGETFULNESS

(I’ve walked the path, so trust me, I know what I’m talking about)

If I were to go back to learning German again, I would start with these instead:
✅Learning how to say useful daily phrases
✅Using high frequency verbs which locals use too
✅Reaction words so you can express yourself

I WOULD ALSO CUSTOMISE MY LEARNING
so its 100% usable right away. ❌ Instead of using random examples in a text book, we take your daily life experiences. Because from what I’ve learned all these years, both as a German learner and now teacher ➡️ IF IT’S NOT RELEVANT TO YOU - the tendency is high that you’ll forget it. Nod your head, if we don’t want that. 😉

IF YOU’RE READY TO TRANSFORM YOUR GERMAN FROM “broken, basic, simple, slow-mo, turtle-paced“>>>> TO speaking multi-layered, versatile, fast-paced, conversational, native level German with any local in Germany.🇩🇪

AND IF YOU’RE READY AS A SKYROCKET, THEN DM ME “READY” TO BOOK YOUR 1:1 LESSONS.

Ich freue mich auf dich! Bis bald :)

➡️Here’s a short answer to a question I get asked all the time 💯 “HOW the hell did you learn German so fast???” 💨

The way was definitely not a bed of roses.

Der Weg war …
🇩🇪steinig = “stony”
🇩🇪langwierig = tedious
🇩🇪verwirrend = confusing

UNTIL I MADE IT….
🎯sinnvoll = meaningful
🎯zielorientiert = goal-oriented
🎯interessant = interesting

Even though I got confused and lost when I first started learning German, I quickly turned it into an interesting experience.😉

Mimicking my husbands’ family was fun — they all were of different professions, with different vocabulary and personality traits, so I could absorb as much real-life German as I could.

DECODING and getting used to the dialect was also fun. Admittedly it was very challenging in the beginning BUT with the right mindset, it became my next favourite hobby and looking back, it has become a skill, a new competency, one of those skills which opened up and still opens doors for me! Personally I feel like knowing the German dialect is one important key 🔑 to a German’s heart. They’ll open up to you, invite you for coffee or a joke, and in my case, even offer you a job aka multiple jobs. 🤑

In my German lessons, I help you speak the kind of “flowy, versatile, diverse German” that will help you connect with your 🇩🇪German-speaking neighbours, colleagues, your baker, your German in-laws and relatives so you can carry on with your normal life in Germany, blending in and feeling like you belong in this new country. ❤️‍🔥

DM me 1:1 to start your lessons 💯
There’s still 1 remaining slot in May 😎
Bis bald 👋🏼

15/12/2023

I had the time to think on the plane about how it was for me when I started learning German myself and here are the top 5 most effective steps I took and which led me to where I am now:

✅ I identified my WHY
✅ I learned to listen and move to “observer mode”
✅ I mastered the modal verbs (at least 4 of them)😅😉
✅ I mastered the verb “sein” in its present & past form
✅ I learned how to write ✍️

I know it may sound like I’m oversimplifying things but really these are the little things I did regularly and consistently that made all the difference for me.

In my opinion the secret sauce is in mastering the basics and consistent practice!!! There’s a saying which goes “Love is in the details” and I would say “perfection” - those of you who want to be perfect - you gotta look into those details…😉

If you wanna know how to use writing ✍️ to lay a great solid foundation for learning German, then DM me or type schreiben in the comments below for a group class (max 5 people) where I share with you all my tips and tricks. (You have to be at least at level A2.1 to join this FREE class.)

post 😎 Mindset is everything!

Let this post be a reminder about what it really is all about. Oftentimes we aim for the certificates - and while that is very important- it is not the end goal.

After my masters degree from a German University, I officially and automatically attained a language level of C1. I guess it was a „bonus prize“ for having studied a degree with German as the main medium of instruction. It was a „big fat pat on the back“ for having endured so long, for having „burned the midnight oil“ so to speak. 🙈

So I deserved it and i got it. Bear in mind that I had not planned on becoming a language teacher. I was still in my „adventure mode“. Anyway, I officially had this Sprachlevel C1. 😎 Yet truth be told, it didn’t bring me as far as I had wanted to go as far as being able to speak German - really being able to speak it. On paper I had C1, yet inside I still couldn’t express myself as deeply as I had wanted to. I still couldn’t explain and express myself in depth as I could in English and in my native language.

My point is yes aim for that certificate - we all need it for work, especially here in 🇩🇪. Yet don‘t forget the bigger prize after that..! ✅ Aim for the ability to communicate, to express yourself as authentically as you can. When this is your goal, all the language rules and grammar will make more sense to you. They will be all of a sudden more „comprendible“ aka understable. And when you understand it, it will stick like glue. Memorizing will be a thing of the past because now you’re learned not just with your mind, your brain, but most importantly from your heart 💛

This post is a reminder to all of you attempting to learn a language. And also a tribute, a deep thank you to all the teachers who came my way.

Aim for the ability to express, the ability to connect and communicate, and you will turbo boost your learning process. This I promise you 😉😎

I wish you a happy Saturday! 🌷
